The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will close the flyover at the Pattanakarn Intersection for one month for repairs later this year as the bridge is showing signs of erosion in the middle, officials said.

The flyover, which has one lane of traffic on each side, links two sections of the Pattanakarn Road and passes over Srinakharin Road.

Thawatchai Naphasaksi, director of the Road Engineering Office of the BMA’s Public Works Department, said his office is calling for bids for the repairs and expects to sign a construction contact later this year.

He said repairs would take about one month and the BMA would work with other government agencies in drawing up a plan to minimise traffic impacts in the area, which is already subject to severe jams due to the ongoing construction of the Yellow Line elevated electric railway system along Srinakharin road.

Currently vehicles on Pattanakarn Road cannot make a right turn at the intersection and have to turn left and drive to the first u-turn or use the the flyover.

Traffic police will have to work out new traffic patterns, Thawatchai added.
