Hi,

My friend who newly arrived in Thailand has to do a border run by April 16 and asked me the process.

I know the process very well and was very easy to teach him except for one thing...

His April 16 border run falls into the Songkran holidays so I'm wondering if he (or all of you other guys) would have any problems doing a border run (probably Poi Pet) on those dates.

I've never experienced that before, have any of you?

(Or even if it's not closed, have you experienced "lazy" immigration officers on those dates who are absent from work and thus won't allow you to exit/enter?)

This would be good info for anyone who has to exit on those dates.

Cheers.

Aside from if the borders are open the roads around any town will be very busy and there will be a lot of drunk drivers around - by a mile it's the most dangerous holiday - I would tell your mate to get it out of the way a few days before songkhran.

And one of the best times of the year for border crossings... it doesnt matter how many stamps you have in your passport... Just stick the passport in the sink and voila! Songkran! Those stamps will be blurry and illegible.

With all the smudged wetted passports coming through you are sure to fly right through immigration...

Only in Thailand, only around Songkran.

But the risk comes in using your passport in other less tolerant countries...

China is getting picky with moldy passports...

Oh' and my mum was given a 2 month stamp in Ranong. We had some worries- since she had failed to check back in with immigration- (all those mini checkpoints on the river confuse drunk people)...

But came back the next day- showed a little middle aged flirtatious cleavage and 'what an amusing story to go with it...'
