Journeyman pro Gary Wilson was the last Englishman standing at the World Six Red Snooker Championships at the BCC Hall, Central Plaza, Lat Prao Bangkok last night.

Needing a snooker in the tenth frame against China's world number 5 Ding Junhui, Wilson got the necessary extra points then cleared up and won frame 11 for a 6-5 win.

The three other English quarter finalists all bowed out on day four of the championships. Scotland's John Higgins outlasted David Gilbert 6-4, Mark Williams of Wales beat Stuart Bingham 6-3 and Stephen Maguire triumphed over Ali Carter 6-2.

Earlier in the day Scotland's Maguire had beaten veteran 57 year old Jimmy White MBE of England in a last 16 encounter. Maguire came from 3-5 down to win 6-5 on the final black.

Tomorrow's semi finals over the best of 13 frames are Higgins vs Williams at 3pm and Maguire vs Wilson at 6.30 pm. The 200 baht entrance fee enables spectators to view both sessions.

The final over the best of 15 frames is on Saturday starting at 2.30pm, entrance fee 300 baht.

Jimmy looked puffed-out. Maybe a previous night's session in 'Sugar Shack' on soi 22 did that to him?  ????

I was going to ask him that after he agreed to a post match selfie with me in the media section.

He did not appear overly communicative at that point.
