Bangkokians want next governor to prioritise traffic jams, cost of living

Nearly 80 per cent of respondents to Super Poll picked traffic jams and road safety as priority issues for Bangkokians while 57 per cent want the new governor to reduce the high cost of living.

 

Super Poll released its survey on Sunday about the potential candidates for next Bangkok governor, who will be elected later this year.

 

Asked if they had a preferred candidate from any political party, 64 per cent said they had not made up their minds yet, while 36 per cent said they had in mind Future Forward, Phalang Pracharat, Democrat, Pheu Thai and other parties.

 

Among student respondents, 59 per cent of them said they already had a favoured political party in mind.

 

Regarding qualifications of the new governor, 84 per cent of respondents preferred someone who was free from corruption allegations while 73 per cent said they wanted someone who would be pragmatic and would solve their problems quickly.

 

The polling of 1,060 people took place in Bangkok from September 1 to 7.

What's this about an election? Don't they know the PM chooses big time governors whenever is suits him. He appointed one of his General buddies as the current Bangkok governor and likewise handed some shady influential political mate the job of Pattaya governor. He used Article 44 to force these appointments on the people.

Article 44 might be gone but he has figured out something to replace it. It's new name is "Special Law". He mentioned it a few times and intimated he could use it in relation to the recent bombings.

This paragraph basically puts a blocker on the whole deal from the very beginning......

1. Road safety well you can whistle dixie for that. 2, Traffic congestion; look at other cities outside of Thailand; they have things like congestion tax (example London but Thai's hate paying) and car sharing ( in Australia,so we get the 1 passenger driver concept to a full car reducing number of cars on the road)

as bangkok was not built for high traffic, the problem will only become worse

If the bankokians chase the tourists out of bangkok.
the problem is solved.
Housing price falls
Food becomes cheaper
lower number of cars on the roads, less queue

Significantly reduce price of BTS, Add ample parking that has easy access to trains at BTS stations. add more trains. add more cars to trains. significantly increase the cost of parking during business ours. move more companies out of the city core.

 

give tickets to people who do not move quickly when the light turns green. huge problem.

eliminate right turns as much as possible allowing 2 opposite lanes to flow thru lights at the same time. 

 

maximize the number of cars thru an intersection by optimizing the light changing.

 

and many more ideas.

 

 

 

Pipe dreams bankokians, none of that pie in the sky stuff ever going to happen, it's all set in cement in Bangkok.

How many cars and motorbikes are currently on the roads?

How many new or used vehicle purchases have there been added to the existing vehicles on the roads in the last year?

How many have been unregistered or left the roads.

How many road widening and other road improvement project are underway?

How many are planned?

Your answer: It ain't gonna get any better until either the roads get wider, there are less vehicles on the existing roads or both. How likely is that gonna happen. This horse let the barn years ago.

 

A scarce resource that is convenient and almost free to use and in high demand is always going to lead to shortages.

 

If the state stopped subsidising roads they would fall into decline and car journeys would no longer be so appealing. Trams and rail could then be developed that are far more pleasant and cleaner to use.

 84% want someone free from corruption.....how do you think they get to that position in the first place........it seems to me only 16% are aware of the backhander system here.

73% want someone to solve their problems, while 27% realise the Governor does not give as flying f##t about the people of Bangkok as he is too busy with his own agenda.

Put a exclusion zone around the inner city about 5 klm radius for all non essential vehicles, cars, trucks motorbikes. Emergency services, taxies, buses, trains exempt. Provide outer city limits multi story car parks for city commuters. Bangkok is an old city and was never designed for todays world.

What we really want in a governor are the following qualities.

 

1. Competence

2. Concern for the common people.

3. Fairness and honesty.

4. A willingness to not enrich yourself at everyone else's expense.

5. A willingness to listen to the people, and address their issues.

6. A desire to say no to the hapless, incompetent, indifferent and inane army, especially when they are totally wrong, which is most of the time.

 

That is about it. Possible? Well, we all know the answer to that question, don't we?

its very simple 

clean the drains No 1

stop your buses entering the city 

at least with less Chinese that problem is getting better 

to many bht busses restrict the amount each day 

enforce the law on Thai people who do not have a license and who never take a test

do the same as some countries 

only allow drivers to use the road every other day enforce on no plates

The junta you to bristle when Bangkok was called a "cheap" place by foreigners. Now the junta is happy and the populous is not.  Who would have seen that coming?

What the people prioritise & what the governor prioritses are not even on the same page !

All very well wishing for a Governor concerned with road safety but it is really the wishers that need to address their awful driving.

Tax is the solution to every problem? Nah, I don’t think so, In Denmark there is no tollway, no congestion tax, and very little traffic , but now they have good infrastructure, buses, mrt, many people use their bicycles.

 

bangkok should focus more on bts,mrt and buses, let’s wait until 2022 and see, many more lines to be open in the future but not enough, another problem is the bts and mrt are very crowded during peak hours, if the platforms was longer they could use longer trains.
