Thanathorn

Future Forward Party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit slammed the Prayut Chan-o-cha government for its handling of the current flood situation in the country.

Speaking in a panel debate on amendment of the Constitution at Khon Kaen University on Sunday, he said he had visited people in Yasothon and Roi Et provinces. He found that floods had damaged 100,000 rai of Yasothon farmers’ rice farms, with losses estimated at Bt500 million.

If the government compensated them at Bt1,000 per rai, it would cost only about Bt100 million. Thanathorn estimated damage from floods in nine provinces in the Northeast at about Bt5.4 billion.

The government has not yet provided sufficient compensation to the flood victims, he said. “If the government seriously wants to help them, it would not cost much, compared to the huge bill of one mass-transit line in Bangkok,” he said, citing the Pink line, which runs 34.5 kilometres. It costs Bt53.4 billion but would benefit only a few people, he said.

Yeap, it happens every time. You have to actually care for change to happen.

It also helps if your party is in power and there is no coup on the radar screen.

He is speaking logic, good governance and decency to primitives.  It must be exhausting.

He is right that flood victims need to be compensated however the pink line is quite useful I use it often. Better not buy subs and use that for the flood victims. The opposition is in the perfect position to comment and sting the government . If they were in power the opposition would have done the same thing. I would not want to be a government in power with these economic headwinds.

I said it before its a blessing in disguise that they did not get in power. So much easier to stand on the sideline and pick apart the government like that. Just wait for the next election and make a name for yourself.

Correct. And they have failed to address virtually every other problem Thailand faces. Inept, incompetent, indifferent, callous, arrogant and completely out of touch with why they were put in office.

The army should be limited to wasting taxpayer money on subs and armored carriers. Do they benefit this nation on any level?

Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit should have been the leader of this nation. Then, maybe some progress could have been made. Now? The nation moves backwards on nearly any measurable scale.

Pinky line aside, cannot see how the junta is a blessing in any way shape or form.  Thanathorn has far more going for him than anyone in green.   He's vital, he can argue and he is likable.  Nothing exists like that in the junta party.

The junta cannot even agree on the opening hours for entertainment venues and drinking establishments, where Cambodia and Vietnam seem to be able to handle such things with ease.  The junta has turned Thailand into a basket case, though the pinky line might be useful.  Wow, what an achievement.

Blessing for Thanathorn, to be not in power. In an economic situation like this whoever is in power is going to look EXTRA bad. The ones who are doing the complaining can do so without actually having to take responsibility or disappoint someone.

Unfortunately they benefit those that made sure they are in power! they have managed to make Thailand the country with the largest social divide in the world according to a recent survey, the social divide is huge, the rich are getting richer & the poor? not really worth mentioning if we follow the rules the "government have set for themselves!

He must mean the lardy general handing out some noddle's just the other day was just a photo op ????

Yea but unless you can walk to it not many people will use it.

You can get in and out of BKK quite easy with a car and parking is never an issue in BKK most buildings have parking lots.
Finding parking at the a Skytrain station is more difficult.

Is the guy in the photo with his arms folded, looking straight ahead, the same one that warned the Future Forward party leader not to mention Thaksin?

Judging by his body-language, he doesn't look much like he is open to a debate, does he?
