Is salary not negotiable in the U.S? Normally in the UK there's a pay scale that you can try and enter higher up.

Good point,  for many corporate jobs there are negotiated salaries. In those cases the salary is contingent on the perceived value the worker brings to the company regardless of gender the exception being people hired to achieve a diversity quota which will actually favor women and minorities.

 

 The public sector and industries with a set pay scale are payed equally.  .... by law.

 

 In sports (which is a segment of the entertainment industry) players are paid by their ability to bring viewers.  A good example is the U.S. women's soccer team,  number 1 in the world but who cares?, nobody watches because well they are boring and play like girls.  Yet they demand equal pay to the men that bring in millions of more dollars. On the other hand you have women's tennis which is exiting to watch and full of drama (women LoL) so high interest, high pay.

After all that has been written about the gender pay gap myth, does anybody still need it explained to them?
