If I can show that a company is paying me 40,000 baht per month offshore, do I qualify for a one year visa of any kind, and am I liable for tax here on those earnings?

if you don't bring the earnings in you are not taxed BUT then you don't qualify for a visa (which you don't anyway if you are not married to a thai lady).

In another thread he mentioned marriage visa so will assume he does have a Thai wife so he will require a letter confirming his income from his Embassy to use the 40k family income method. Do not believe Immigration requires the money to come into Thailand - just that you have the income.

Normally tax would only be required (by practice/not law) if the money remitted into Thailand was earned in the same tax year. Believe most people remit savings from previous years for living here.
