The Prime Minister is grateful for all donations made on Tuesday while he staffed the phone for a government TV programme, said Government Spokesman Narumon Pinyosinwat on Wednesday.

The donations from individuals, government agencies and the private sector totalled Bt263 million, with Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha making a personal donation of Bt100,000 to the government’s charity bank account.

Actor Bin Banluerit, whose own charity for flood victims has raised above Bt260 million, also joined the programme to help answer donor phone calls.

Officials have pledged that all the money donated through the government bank account will be carefully distributed to the flood victims. The official aid budget has not yet passed through regulatory proceedings as not all data has been collected for damaged property and casualties.

That’s a pretty serious amount of money raised. Hope it all gets dispersed properly and not a single baht falls into unintended hands.

Serious amount of money, but the sad part about it is probably only 10-15%will find its way to those desperately in need of help.

Unfortunately even money for children and handicapped people is stolen.  The Thai people have to do everything, and they let leaders coast, and do what they want.  Just as the police continue to ask Thai people to do police work ????

100k baht, that's pretty serious donation, must be half the PMs, a humble civil servant that he is, yearly salary. I wonder how he can cope, poor sweethearted man.

A telethon!
