SSO warns insurers to carry insurance card during Songkran Festival

Social Security Office (SSO) warns insurers to carry insurance card while traveling to their hometown during Songkran Festival. At the same time, the SSO has reminded travellers to be cautios as 5,000 people were injured during Songkran holidays last year.

Deputy Permanent Secretary for Justice, Mr. Surin Jirawisit (สุรินทร์ จิรวิศิษฎ์), warns insurers to be careful while traveling and to carry insurance cards with them at all times. He says the insurance card is very important for them if they have an accident. As for emergency case, he says if they are unable to admit at the hospital under the SSO, they can admit at the nearest hospital. He says SSO will be responsible for the medical fee in accordance with its regulations.

Last year, 38 insurers died from accident during Songkran holidays and 4,925 are injured, adding that SSO compensated over 206 million baht.

JD - not sure if I am being thick - quite possible but are you meaning the people who are insured (insurees) or the people who issued the insurance (insurers). Most Thais have their ID card which must be carried at all times with them and used at the hospital if medical attention is required. My wife has herself and our son on a different card but rarely has to show it using her ID instead.

I think that's the intent Crow Boy.

Sometimes the TNNBPRD have some translation issues... where native English speakers would chose to use a more appropriate phrase or wording.
