BANGKOK, 21st September 2019 (NNT) - The sky above Bangkok is hazy because of the heavy and continual rain. For the southern region, the values of PM2.5 in Songkhla and Yala are still slightly above standard level due to the impact of forest fires and smog from Indonesia.

For the PM2.5 situation in Bangkok and its vicinity, the Pollution Control Department’s 23 and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s 24 air quality measurement stations found that the values of PM2.5 are likely to decrease to the standard level and the air quality is at a medium to a very good level. There has been a visible mist over the Bangkok area during the past 1-2 days. The Meteorological Department confirmed that the haze that has covered Bangkok during the past few days was caused by excessive humidity. This will continue until September 22, 2019.

As for the southern haze situation, the Director-General of the Pollution Control Department said the values of PM2.5 in Songkhla and Yala are still above the standard level, which is beginning to affect people’s health. In Satun, Trang, Narathiwat and Pattani, the amount of dust tends to increase but has not exceeded the standard level.

There was actually red code of air pollution over Bangkok and its vicinity on Friday, Sept 20th. And this happened with all the heavy rain lately. Therefore spraying water during haze doesn't help much. This is proof.

Yes, there was a peak of PM2.5 on Friday in Bangkok, which is a bit unusual during the rainy season. My PM 2.5 meter measured 96 micrograms per cubic meter. This lasted just about 1 day. Today it's better, at about 40 micrograms.

I thought rain washed away the smog! Now they are saying it makes it worse..... Please make up your minds. Well anyway my family and I do not have to worry as we now live in a little village in Scotland.
