Last Blood left David Morrell feeling ‘degraded’ (Picture: Getty, Yana Blajeva)

The author of the original Rambo books has expressed his ‘embarrassment’ over the new movie sequel Last Blood.

Sylvester Stallone reprises his role as the legendary war veteran in the latest installment, directed by Adam Grunberg, but it’s failed to impress David Morrell who penned the original story.

Morrell brought the fictional character to life in his 1972 debut novel First Blood but says he’s thoroughly underwhelmed by the efforts in the new film.

In basic terms, he wants nothing to do with it.

It's simply an awesome move

I'm going to watch it, but I'm also getting a bit worried of Sly croaking on the set. Too bad they stopped making proper action heroes sometime around the 90's.

We saw it last Saturday evening. Only about 20-25 people in the cinema watching it.

I thought the storyline was poor but the action scenes very good.

I think Sly is great, I will be happy to watch another Rambo flick. The last one was good and close to home as well.

A well made movie often suffers from several things when sequals are released. Tedium, snoring and box office failure. R.I.P. Rambo.

When is Rambo going to defeat the Taliban in Afghanistan? He beat the Viet Cong single handed where the American army failed! ???? Or will they send Chuck Norris?

It's interesting that the Rotten Tomatoes critics' score is 28% and the audience score is 84%.

That kind of split happened with Chappele's last special, except that audience score was at 99%.  In that case the critics seemed too left-leaning to appreciate it.  One would expect this to be a really shallow, dumb action movie, lacking both a plausible plot and any character development, but then that's what the series has been about for awhile, what audiences are there to see.

There are troll armies and paid clickfarms out there, in some cases like Disney's Captain Marvel it's very skewed because of these campaigns. Can't trust any review sites anymore.

When the trailer makes you cringe then the signs are not good.

That said I will probably still go and watch it for nostalgic reasons.

It's simply bloodshed for the sake of bloodshed, designed to make viewers angry at the "baddies". I was hoping for more of the same as the previous one which I liked, but this seemed like lazy writing.

Could have been great.

Sad way for the franchise to end.

I have seen the movie 2 days ago. I have enjoyed it very much.

I have seen and enjoying also all of the Rambo saga since the beginning.

Honestly this last one is pretty good and well deserve the price of the ticket.

It was a challenge to stay in the spirit of the saga, Stallone being now a grandpa (73 yo)

but he is still a f.....g warrior and the good old time is never very far.

Do not go with childs under 16 (Some extremely bloody gore and violent scenes)
