Hi all,

I'm living in North Carolina with my Thai wife.

My wife's English is good but not good enough to do the driving test. She is doing English language lessons 3 times a week which I drive her to (no biggie, its about 30 mins each way) but if she could drive, she could go to he lessons during the day which would really help her.

California has the driving test in Thai but you need to be a California resident to do it there. NC does not do the driving test in Thai.

Anyone got any ideas please?

Now this is always State specific, but.

My wife's English is perfect, and had grown up in Illinois and had a license there.

But since she hadn't driven in the US for a couple of decades, and her IL license had long since expired, she opted to do a drivers ed course before getting her SD license.

In SD at least, an adult who completes a drivers ed course and gets a certificate of completion simply walks into DMV presents the certificate and walks out with a bright shiny DL, no written test required.
