Thai woman gets pavement rash after footpath gobbles her up

Thai caption: That's Thailand's footpaths

Comment was rife on Facebook after a Thai woman reported that a footpath north of Bangkok gobbled her up.

The lady was waiting to cross the road by a Zebra Crossing on Sri Saman Road in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi.

Bricks collapsed sending her leg down a hole.

Fortunately she only suffered pavement rash as shown by pictures of her leg.

She wondered about the poor work done on the sidewalk as there seemed nothing to support the bricks.

Posters advised her helpfully that it was probably a result of erosion of sand.

She later posted that she reported the incident and the relevant authorities promised action in two or three weeks, at the latest.

  • poor girl ….   could easily suffer a broken shin by the look of that hole, very nasty. I hope it is now under protection barriers for the next two to three weeks.

  • Cement is just a grey powder, I prefer to walk on cured concrete.

All around this area they have dug up wonderful smooth footpaths. These had been in place for about 6 years and showed no signs of wear. Very popular in the early morning for jogging. They have been replaced as you see above. Where once there was one flat footpath about 1.3 meters wide there are now two with one being 15 centimeters higher than the other. It is beyond belief. Hard enough to walk on the narrow footpaths now, but also it seems the work is very shoddy indeed. Somebody made money though. That is in general what is it all about.

Hopefully a scooter's front wheel next time.

I will not walk on anything but solid cement.  Manholes are avoided.

Not me ????????

A small graze like that can easily become infected here . Important to put antiseptic on quickly .

More of the legendary Thai work standards I avoid by doing everything myself where  possible, too many places  like this here, nothing ever properly bedded  down etc, see it on many developments,  looks  good for 1  day then first rain it all gets washed away and disintegrates.

The A team will put a cardboard box over the hole in the next 3 months when there still hasn't been any repairs done

You must hop about like an overweight, sweating kangaroo then. Do you have jiggling manboobs?

Wash that one out of your mind boys hahahahahahahahahqhqhahahahahahahahahahaha

Something the same happened to me but right in the city of London. Walking down Thread-needle Street i fell down a manhole because the cover had been left off

So these bricks have been layed on thin air.

Kinda cool. These craftsmen should show off this on "thailand's got talent"

No, a twig from a tree. That's the Thai way.

This one was apparently a womanhole

Don’t you think that’s normal in Thailand? Many places still without sidewalks.

I have noticed this before in many areas around here.

A solid base is not the product that is understood very well!

Stay inside and never leave, not even to the balcony, Thailand's just too dangerous.

So below the surface there was nothing.

In Thailand?

Same in Pattaya.  No solid base under the paver stones.  You can see the underlying sand just washed or settled away.  Been that way and worse the 15 years I have been going there

Or the mulitiuse plastic chair...which can also reserve parking ..

It's a good thing she doesn't live in Pattaya otherwise she would be falling over many time a day walking along most pavements

Poor hole, … I mean poor girl.

as retired uk builder my comment is -it is poor workmanship  should not on sand alone this will wash-away  with rainfall ,,should be on hardcore and max depth of 50m/m sand mixed with Portland cement

In the meantime, small branches with leaves will be stuffed into the holes as "official" warning signs!!!
