PHUKET: Workers started removing unsightly tangles of unused telecommunications cables along Mae Luan Rd in Phuket Town yesterday (Sept 25) as the Phuket office of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) rolled out the next major stage of its campaign to tidy up roadside overhead cables

they need to go underground

put them underground.  and fix the damm sidewalks while they are at it.

You think the power supply is unreliable now. Just wait until poor quality underground installations have been in place for a few years, water, corrosion, undersized conductors and determining fault locations.

There are good reasons for arial cables, none relate to visual appearance but the performance of overhead distribution is superior in most aspects.

That has nothing to do with being arial or underground. The issue you raise relates to the design and qualty of the nework and the installation.
