NEW YORK (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has completed his mission at the 74th United Nations General Assembly in New York, in the United States. Throughout the week, Thailand focused on the role of ASEAN regionally and shared sustainable growth. Thailand won admiration from the United Nations General Assembly chairman for its many international roles at regional and world levels.

Thailand has fulfilled its role as ASEAN chair during the United Nations General Assembly by pushing for a high-level plenary session on universal health care coverage.

The international community has expressed admiration for Thailand’s universal health care coverage which everybody can access. Gen Prayut is satisfied with the outcome of the meeting and confirmed that universal health care coverage is now provided to nearly 100% of the Thai population.

It means that the nation could significantly save on the government budget and help the national economy if the people maintain good health.

Currently, the people depend on community-based doctors and village-based public health volunteers. One medical team provides initial health care for 30,000 people.

Congestion of patient numbers at large hospitals is being addressed by upgrading subdistrict-level health promotion hospitals, and applying technology in medical treatment online, to save on travel costs.

The 74th United Nations General Assembly Chairman, Tijjani Muhammad Bande expressed his admiration for Thailand as ASEAN chair and its outstanding role in promoting regional cooperation. The prime minister confirmed Thailand has adhered to a sustainable development approach under Sufficiency Economy principles and has exchanged views on the issue with other countries.

The prime minister delivered a speech entitled the " The Making of Partnerships for International Sustainability with Thai Society’s Strength.’’ It was the first speech by the Thai prime minister at the Asia Society in seven years.

The Asia Society has played an important role in promoting cooperation between Asia and the United States over the last 60 years. In that time, the Thailand-United States relationship has bolstered regional stability and progress.

Thailand realizes that the well-being of the people might be affected by a new pattern of threats and climate change. Thailand is also looking to extend cooperation with Indo-Pacific countries with a near three billion population combined. This is an opportunity to increase regional strength and influence.

The prime minister also mentioned Thailand’s development in the last five years, as it has laid foundations for solutions to problems of disparity,

improving regulations and providing more convenience for investors while successfully addressing human trafficking and illegal fishing problems.

After finishing the mission at the United Nations General Assembly, the prime minister attended a dinner and held talks with members of the United States - ASEAN Business Council and the United States Chamber of Commerce.

The prime minister confirmed Thailand’s strengths with regards to natural resources and infrastructure which could be a gateway to connectivity with large-sized regional and subregional markets.

The government is looking to create an investment climate and improve regulations to provide more convenience for businesses making investments in Thailand.

I'm guessing he has a name tag/pass pinned on him as nobody actually knows who he is.

Where universal healthcare is concerned, I'm still looking for the part where Big Too gives credit to his predecessors for setting the ball rolling

Somehow doubt Malaysia and Vietnam wish to follow Thailand's "leadership".  Been to UN meetings in Thailand.   The apple polishing that goes on is beyond compare and is nauseating much like this article.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has completed his mission at the 74th United Nations General Assembly in New York, in the United States.

Good job done by Khun Prayuth and his team. The UN assembly with it's international contingencies has given full accolade and compliment to Thailand and Khun Prayuth Cha O Cha.

Well if that isn’t proof of what a useless and ineffectual organisation the UNmthen I don’t know what is. What a money gobbling bureaucratic waste of time.

That's diplomacy, although I will admit I don't know details of what the 'full accolade and compliment' is.

Who was it who said the art of diplomacy is to tell someone to go to hell in such a way they actually look forward to the journey.

That's exactly what the NNT is. A mouthpiece for the Government. No self-respecting publication would publish such drivel. (I don't count The Nation, which also has connections to the Government)

Thailand health care system indeed deserves some admiration, but this government cannot take any credit for it. And the little P(eacock) even wanted at some stage to restrict the scope of eligibility.

Now, an almost identical system was available in Ecuador in 1980 but was truly universal as anyone, foreigners included, could walk into any public clinic, pay 10 Sucres and get treatment and medication. True humanity.

Thai Visa's very own "Baghdad Bob", Steven the 100, trying to wind us up.  The tinpot does not have trust on his side, just a nice suit and haircut.  Malaysia and Vietnam will drive SEA, not Thailand.  Rarely do UN meetings signify anything other than parlor games.

Steven, have you ever been to a UN meeting?  You can go to their Bangkok branch.  See for yourself what is like.
