Pattaya streets submerged after flash rainstorm

PATTAYA:--Many areas of Pattaya were swamped after heavy rain hit the city Sept. 26. The latest floods came despite huge expense and years of construction to install new drainage systems and certain parts of the city clearly remain at high risk during the monsoon season.

Pattaya 3rd Road is one such area and last week’s deluge saw water levels quickly rise up to 60cm in depth and cause a huge tailback of traffic on the city’s major thoroughfare.

Other parts of the town were similarly affected by floodwater run-off rushing down from higher areas. Sois Khao Noi and Khao Talo saw torrents of water flowing down to inundate the railway road while sections of Sukhumvit Road and Pattaya Beach Road were also submerged.

what can we expect when there are no decent drains, most are either full of garbage or have been back filled(if dirt) to increase the owners area or too make an illegal access points to do u turns or to turn into streets/houses but with no drain pipes used under them. This happens all over Thailand, drainage is simply not a big part of road building here, flooding occurs constantly when we get heavy rain and they refuse to do anything about it.

"...huge expense and years of construction..."

I imagine much of that expense was "handling costs" and all those "years" were just a means to steady kickback income.

Oh, and let us not forget the "engineer" who perhaps copied plans from some magazine.

And testing the drains work re commissioning; only happens at first rain fall. LMFAO!

How is that new tunnel working out?  Does it stay water free during these floods or do they have to close it?

The tunnel doesn't flood but Sukhumvit road South Pattaya junction does, causing much chaos.

so better build a tunnel there stop the flooding ??!!!

I took a look last night, all the water has gone so they have fixed it!
