Nongprue police bust two motorcycle repair shops

PATTAYA:--Nongprue police busted two unnamed motorcycle repair shops operating without proper licenses in front of Wat Suttawas near the Pattanakarn Road Junction.

The operation was carried out on the afternoon of Sept. 23, acting on a tip from annoyed neighbors that local shops were illegally modifying motorbikes to be louder and faster for racing.

Two out of the three shops checked were found to be illegal.

Police also seized 3 motorcycles to check their registration to make sure they weren’t stolen.

Owners face possible 5,000 baht fines and a jail sentence of not over 6 months.

''...Owners face possible 5,000 baht fines''

Do all the other repair shops have a license? I am surprised that something like that exists in Thailand at all.

Not only is it the ridiculously low level of the fines which permits these issues to continue, but also that the Shop will continue to operate.

A regular income stream for the coppers as they will be raided each month. This is just an official fine, every other month its a quiet donation.

That said - would closing all these illegal business outright improve anything for Thailand, we'd likely end up with scores of unemployed young men around and that wouldn't be good for crime stats as those in need turn to other avenues to feed their families, themselves or the weekend of fun.

The initial complaint is of loud motorcycles: 'Loud Pipes Save Lives' but there are limits and some are just ridiculously loud. IF too loud, measure the output dB and if over the legal limit Confiscate the Bike until the owner can place the original pipes back on (and confiscate the aftermarket exhaust).

It 'sounds good' in a TVF post..... But do you 'really' expect the 'Thai Cops' to 'actually' try to do it the right way?????

I live on a long soi on the darkside of Pattaya and those 'Loud pipe bikes' race down our soi at 80 - 100 KM  (all hours of the night) and the noise is horrendous..... Cops won't do anything good for 'us'..... Only if it brings money to themselves.......

Fortunately for me I have grown used to that noise and can usually sleep thru it.... I grew up living under the Arrival Flight Path of a large International airport and grew used to jets coming overheard all night...... I'm lucky for that.....

A meager fine, slap on the wrist and carry on tomorrow.

Let the kids race, it's called freedom !

The need to practice for Buriram 2025

Another story highlighting the efficacy of Pattaya Plod.  Once in a Blue Moon, they get off their asses and appear to do something which has zero effect on the second worst province for road deaths in all Thailand.

Second cop from the left ... "something doesn't smell right here". (maybe he cracked wind)

Third from left thinks it's funny.
