I have made a booking on the consulate website to do a tourist visa later in the week.

I am wondering is a bank statement or onward flight required for tourist visa applications?

Also do you still need to arrive 2 hours early and wait in line? or are the lines shorter now with the booking system?

Thanks

Tourist Visa, if you had previously some Tourist visas your application will be considered more carefully. Vientiane is now, in most cases, asking for proof of funds, Book Bank with balance THB 20,000.- up OR print out from Bank account from home country value USD 700.-up. Onward air ticket is not required.

A off topic post about Vietnam visas and replies to it have been removed. I originally left the post to inform him it was incorrect but then about 6 replies were done. Time to get back on topic.

Best to be prepared to show proof of the equivalent of 20k baht in a bank if asked for it.

I have seen no reports of them wanting tickets out.

How many tourist visas do you have in your passport.

No need to arrive early. The start calling the lowest queue numbers in groups so if you have a high number you can go later than opening time.

I do not have any other tourist visas in this passport.

I have a visa exempt at the airport and one at the Cambodia border.

Thanks

My friend just yesterday got denied a 60 day tourist visa for not having bank statements. They did not ask for onward ticket, but who knows, that may have been the next question!

He does have many Thai visas in his Passport.

Best to show proof of funds.

I went there for a SETV last week and the day I returned to pick up my passport, they picked me out of the line for an interview inside the building (along with about 30 others).

I was questioned by a very friendly man for about 20 minutes. In the beginning he asked me about my source of income and money to which I replied that I quit my job to travel and use my savings to support myself. I showed him the account balance in my bank app, which seemed ok for him.

After that he was mostly interested in what I do in Thailand. I told him that I'm just relaxing most of the time, which made him laugh quite a bit. He asked to tell me more so I said I also travel quite a bit and he wanted to see some photo's. I showed some photo's of Koh Tao on my phone.

At no point during the interview I was asked for a ticket out of Thailand.

After the interview I was told to wait outside and got my passport including visa back once all people were interviewed (around 16:30).

Thanks for your report, that's very interesting and sounds like a reasonable way to vet long-term tourists.
