PHNOM PENH, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) officially issued on Monday a 15,000-riel banknote (in equivalent to 3.75 U. S. cents) in order to mark the 15th anniversary of King Norodom Sihamoni’s coronation. A sub-decree on the issuance of the 15,000-riel currency was signed by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Monday.

 

The new note displays a portrait of Sihamoni on the obverse and his picture taken with his parents—former King Norodom Sihanouk and former Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk—on the reverse, NBC’s governor Chea Chanto said in an announcement. At the bottom on the reverse, it was written: “Congratulations the 15th Anniversary of the Coronation of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneth NORODOM SIHAMONI (29 October 2004-29 October 2019”, the governor said.

 

He added that its main colors are purple, lavender and blue. Sihamoni’s photos were printed on the current banknotes of 500 riels, 10,000 riels, 20,000 riels, and 100,000 riels. The monarch, 66, ascended the throne as the King of Cambodia on Oct. 29, 2004 after his father late King Norodom Sihanouk abdicated due to health problem.
