Boris Johnson train evacuated after Russian drone strike near NATO border

BORIS CAUGHT IN THE DRONE ALERT

Boris Johnson was aboard a private train heading out of Ukraine when passengers were warned to prepare for an evacuation after a Russian drone struck a train just behind them.

The former British prime minister was travelling towards Poland after attending a major security conference in Kyiv when the train stopped at around 5am amid a Russian drone alert.

Johnson escaped unharmed and an all-clear was issued shortly afterwards.

But the train carrying him was only minutes ahead of another passenger service that was attacked.

“THE TRAIN JUST BEHIND US”

Former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt was also aboard Johnson's train and described the tense moments as passengers received an evacuation warning.

It was not their train that was hit.

It was the train immediately behind them.

Bildt said the service was evacuated as the Russian drone approached and nobody was injured.

The attacked train was travelling on the Kyiv-Warsaw route and carrying 206 passengers. Its locomotive was hit, sending passengers running in fear.

Johnson later shared pictures of the strike with the Daily Mail.

TWO KILOMETRES FROM POLAND

The incident becomes considerably more serious when you look at where it happened.

The attack took place close to the Yahodyn-Dorohusk border crossing, with Ukrainian railway officials putting the strike at just two kilometres from the Polish border.

The border crossing itself was also hit by a Russian drone.

Footage appearing on social media showed vehicles on fire, while Ukrainian reports said a petrol station was also struck.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Poland confirmed the attack and activated defensive measures as Russian drones operated dangerously close to NATO territory.

BORIS WASN’T THE ONLY VIP

Johnson's train was carrying a remarkable collection of European political and security figures.

Among those aboard were former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's foreign and security-policy adviser Günter Sautter, along with security advisers from Britain, France and Italy, German MPs, diplomats and academics.

They had been attending the annual Yalta European Strategy conference in Kyiv, where Western officials were discussing Ukraine's future and possible peace negotiations with Russia.

That makes the timing of the attack particularly uncomfortable.

A MESSAGE TO THE WEST?

German MP Robin Wagener, who was also aboard the train, described the drone attacks as a dangerous escalation and suggested Russia was sending a warning to countries supporting Ukraine.

Whether that was the intention or not, the symbolism is difficult to miss.

A Russian drone strike hits a railway carrying passengers close to the Polish border — while a train packed with senior European figures is travelling just minutes ahead.

And then there is the NATO factor.

PLAYING WITH FIRE

Russian forces have increasingly targeted Ukraine's railway infrastructure, according to Ukrainian Railways, which says its network is facing systematic attacks.

Rail services are particularly important because the Kyiv-Poland route is routinely used by foreign officials travelling to and from Ukraine.

This latest attack brings the war uncomfortably close to NATO territory.

Nobody on the trains was killed.

But the message from the geography is hard to ignore:

The war in Ukraine is being fought just two kilometres from the European Union and NATO.

And this time, Boris Johnson was on the train that got the warning.

Dude is in a war zone. Not sure what he is expecting. A warm welcome? I guess Russia gave him one at that.

Very brave. Target passenger rail service. terroize and kill civilians.

Why were all the apparently "important" muppets on the same train? Even moderately sized businesses don't let more than a couple of their senior people on the same mode of transport.

Okay, now I understand. The muppets had no intrinsic societal value to speak of. Boris is worth about 2/6 in the old money - the intellectual equivalent of a dyslexic amoeba with a tragic haircut - and that's on a good day. coffee1

Almost karmic justice. Wasn't it Boris that wrecked the deal Ukraine/Russia has essentially agreed upon thus causing this 24hr war to defeat Russia( remember this lefty narrative at the onset - Russia had no weapons, doldiers or money and would fold in a day🤣😅😂).

Evil evil man I would be celebrating but sadly I'm not. Maybe a lesson to the evil blob to keep his nose out of other's business.

This is surprising!

As foreign minister he visited Russia in 2017.He also told Russia not to meddle in Europe !!!

It will all be over by Christmas.

You mean other peoples business of committing war crimes and killing innocent civilians? And you wear the Restore / Reform colors as your avatar as something to be proud of?
