Yep, they tried this with me as well when I started the Non-O route 10 years back. Were told to cop themselves on and do their jobs.   However, when they got there, we fed and watered them a

But if that's true, that's hilarious and shows the greed for Baht of the Thais.

Year after year no one comes to visit and check, only pictures in all sorts of silly combinations.

Now introducing mandatory home visits and finding a way to make money out of it. How more blatant can one get 5555

"Gave them 500 for diesel for the way back"

That's like paying the police's fuel bill for coming out to check up on you?

Don't tell me what I need to do has been my mantra with them.

Do you think maybe that endeared you to them?

That's unique - you want the immigration officers to make love to you? You tell them this? And then hope they approve your visa...

Paying a person to overlook something is one thing...but tipping a policeman for doing his job....come on...get real!

In 21 years I have never had this problem with Phuket immigration. Maybe I've just been lucky. I've only had one home visit, but this year changing to marriage so see what happens

Especially when there is no receipt for the 1k to 'cover the cost' of a home visit

Very questionable, to say the least

I had none for many years in a row ... now they are very frequent. I also got one last year.

People always say ... no problem ... I have nothing to hide ... I offer them a cup of coffee.

In reality, you have to rely on other people to be there and get them in on time ... the witness ... working, not always available.

No exact time has been given to tell the witness when to be there.

They are expected to be there on the spot, when the Immi guys call you ... we're now on our way.

4 officers coming into your house, looking around, one guy got so bored, he checked out the garbage bin outside, while pictures were taken inside.

Best thing is, they never talk to you ... only to the wife and witness. Just as if you don't even exist!

(and I thought it was about my visa ???? )

It's an unnecessary invasion into privacy, into your house. Yes, the show is over within 5 minutes, but you have to book out and plan the complete day and arrange the witness, only for that visit.

By Immi guys who know you for multiple years, and have everything already, ton's of previous paperwork and documents already in their archives.

So next story is now, in addition to that, you can fork up 1k Baht for the entertainment of 4 guys coming to your house and taking pictures 5555

That's why they say, Amazing Thailand ????

I know i have mate, I told the wife its a scam because they wouldn't give me a receipt. wife said don't make a scene....

In that context I really pity you for your wife's "sh** up and accept it" attitude. We all know how things are working here, but if you give those guys contra and a hard time, they won`t ask anymore. Many fear `don`t pay = i will get problems` and that`s just wrong. If everything is alright, they will never let that 1000 Baht- discussion escalate, as they know it will be problematic for them as well. They are just doing it ,as they perfectly know that lots of guys will pay.

Yes, I understand. But once explained that they only get bus ticket price refunded, I felt it was the right thing to do. Now that I know more 10 years on........................ ???? Quite naive back then.

1 - not your problem.

2 - would you have done the same, given a 'tip' to them for doing their job, back home?

3 - Silly point in 2, as you wouldn't have to go through the same nonsense if the role was reversed in your own country.

Unbelievable. People like you probably let them keep the 100 baht change from the visa fee.

Cheap Charlie. Just think of how many times you have wasted 100 baht.

A friend of mine recently paid 3000 for a home visit - 4 immigration officers who wanted 500 each, tip to the village headman of 500 to make an appearance, and 250 each to 2 neighbours as witnesses. We all said he had been ripped off. At the very least his wife should have negotiated at least 50% off.

As others have said, if you don't pay it doesn't affect your extension as it is just a try on. The Officers don't want to make problems for themselves by drawing attention to a particular situation. They'll just move onto the next sucker who might well pay up.

I'm not about to make enemies with an immigration officer over a thousand Baht. I'm not at immigration to fight a crusade against corruption I'm there to get a piece of paper stamped so people will leave me alone.

And if you are nothing wrong in your side, you have no reason to do it.

Or they'll want still more and more years after years.

This is not the west, even if everything is 100% you can still have problems, you just never know.

I've had immigration guys try to extort money and told them no! waited 5-10 mins and they give up.  on the other hand I've had police make things up to get paid. One time the cop showed me a picture of a car speeding saying it was me (I have a truck) and wanted 500B, stood my ground for 30 mins, kept saying that's a car I have a truck, he would repeat that's you! finally gave up, gave him 200B got my license back and on my way.  Several TV members have had problems with govt officials being corrupt. It's how things work in Asia.

This is what happens for someone I know working in a different govt ministry.

If she or her team are required to make an official visit/inspection or attend a meeting or conference, an official pickup or van with driver is provided. These can range in distance from inside the provincial city to 4 or 5 provinces away.

If no official vehicle is available and she has to drive her own vehicle she receives travel allowance cash based on distance from her admin office.

I cant see why immigration works differently.

Last year when the obese one came with his drunk sidekick (11 am) and the accompanying 2 females, the drunk one told me ''we pay money for ferry'', i told them, well you will have to pay for the return as well, i didn't ask you to come. This year only the men returned and didn't talk to me at all or even ask to see my PP,just told my wife that i should, put my shirt on, then walked all over the house wearing their shoes. I don't even like my wife giving them water to drink.

Why'd you let them in the house?

Wouldn't offer them a thing. If they asked for something to drink, would oblige with room temp water...nothing more.

It's really a pity to know in what sort of misery some of us are living here

i wish this poor guy to never be short with his money, or he should be in

a very big trouble in less than few hours with such people around him.

live in the fear and pay for everything all the time.even if it's not necessary at all

good luck with that but hey for some reasons (Illimited funds, not want to bother with something, too weak or whatsoever) it's your choice, but sorry it's not ''how things work in asia''

Yes, I really dislike Pathum Thani immigration, starting with the person that you have to get que numbers from.  They are the reason that 12 years since my last 'B' I'm still getting a non 'O' from Laos and driving to Ban Phumanron every 90 days. Even though the 90 reporting isn't in the 'visa' office, I just hate going out there (and potentially seeing a couple of those people).
