Future Forward party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit expressed concern Saturday that Army Command-in-Chief General Apirat Kongsompong’s speech, given at the Army headquarters, may fuel the fire of hatred among a Thai people, who are already divided by their political differences.

The army chief talked about a “hybrid war” being waged by a collection of ill-intentioned politicians, remnants of communist ideologies and anti-establishment elements, to destroy the country.  He also accused some politicians of trying to indoctrinate young Thais with their “destructive ideas”.

The fire-brand politician, who was on the campaign trail in Nakhon Pathom province to help his party’s candidate contesting the by-election, said that General Apirat made the speech without a proper understanding of the context of Thai society, which is undergoing changes, adding that his speech will not help to guide the country forward, but will fuel the fires of hatred.

Nice one! A military dictatorship has no moral authority and nothing it says can mask its illegitimatcy.

It is quite telling when a military leader describes political debate and opinions as a war.

With the personal wealth Thanathorn has it's kind of difficult to accuse him of communist ideologies.

In most countries we guys are coming from, at least Europe, where army personnel are banned from politics, this Army Chief would have been sacked within 24h. Thai democracy? :cheesy::cheesy:

Apirat is just demonstrating a familiar trait of Thai military generals. Opening the mouth before engaging the brain.

These tyrannical, bordering on maniacal, political outbursts by Apirat are more intended as a show of strength to give people the message that it really he who is the supreme commander rather than Prayut Chan-o-cha. He needs to flex his muscles in front of the people; even if it means saying stupid things.

This political meddling by Apirat must make potential foreign investors think twice about investing in the PM's EEC. This man is a danger to the economy. Prayut needs to shut him up but instead he sits by like a timid mouse.

That much is true.   These army guys live in a totally different world of unaccountability and privilege.   They only care about the army.

This should boost tourist numbers.  'Come to Thailand and observe tanks on the street as the army takes over AGAIN!'

I don't think anything can harm this country. They have tried everything.

I have to wonder what the Chinese communist leaders think about his disdainful and damaging comments about their own 'communist' system?

Just observe the fanatical hatred in his voice which is clearly shown on his face.

I thought most Thais already hated the military, the Police and their oppressive over lords? somethings deserve to be hated.

But this is the acceptable and approved form of hatred ...

It may very well cause problems, but the whole farang population are there shaking their heads in dis-belief as they watch a wonderful country self destruct

Indeed economy keeps rolling exchange rate getting better. So seems nobody really worried about anything.

I doubt your right otherwise the party supporting the military would not have gotten so much votes. So a lot might hate the army but a lot seem to like them too.

Like other said, this guy is a danger scared of FFW and the future. He knows that slowly FFW will get more votes unless they are shown to be corrupt and bad like the other parties.

What goes around comes around as it has been since the late 30's, when the army took control by force. No surprise, yet again...

Nothing new. Same old fickleness...

The whole purpose of the speech was to fuel hatred, and the military has one chip that they always throw into the pot to cement their legitimacy...loyalty to the monarchy.

The English subtitles show that he hasn't got a clue in the world what he's talking about and he's seriously twisting small items to mean something quite different*, something that he thinks makes him legitimate. Dangerous man, unfortunately he has immense power.

*Khun Thanathorn went to HK as a guest of the Economist magazine for a seminar planned well before the HK political problems. He had never met Joshua Wong before, as is normal at seminars people circulate and meets other. Networking, nothing wrong with that. The dangerous army guy verbalizes complete untruths about all of the above. He dercries communism but forgets that Thailand does very sizeable trade with China and forgets conveniently forgets that China is now more of a modern socialist state (nothing wrong with that) than an old style communist state, and forgets that China has made enormous improvements in the quality of life of hundreds of millions of Chinese and more and more Chinese gaining the same benefits as time goes on.

In a nutshell, the army guys speech is seriously dishonest and seriously divisive.

Serious question: How does a General's uniform jacket get cleaned? Some of the many, many, many useless decorations

Therefore FAKE NEWS and should be dealt with by their FAKE NEWS police (whatever it is they officially named that department).

Remember. . . the donosaurs ruled for millions of years, but in the end they were deposed by little creatures on which they had preyed.

Message to Prayuth, Stop buying Apirat weapons that may be used to oust you.

I always thought it was a meteor and more volcano activity not what you said. Do you have anything to back up what you said ? I mean who taught you that ? Or did you just wanted to look cool with your reply ?

A bit too late, my Colonel. Been like that since 2006.
