I am just wondering, how many of you might have first arrived in Thailand before 1975.

 

Those were the good old days, of course.

 

If your first visit to Thailand was before 1975, then what is your story in 101 words, more or less?

 

Why did you visit Thailand?

 

Did you get rich as a result?

 

Did you fall in love with the culture?

 

Did you wonder what it was all about?

 

Before 1975, Thailand was not such a popular destination.

 

So, then, what is your story?  Why did you come?

"1971, around March of that year. Arrived Thailand. But, my story is not interesting. My 1971 visit lasted four days.  At the time, I was an <deleted> who knew nothing.  I mean that I knew nothing about Thai culture.  And I knew nothing about what might make that visit meaningful.  Now, I think that I know more."  (OK.  That's less than 101 words.)

I first visited as a university student in 1975 so I guess I don't qualify as, before 1975.  Anyway, after graduation I moved here in 1977 and have lived here ever since.????

Many of us came to Thailand during the Vietnam War years, and have returned during our later years because we discovered the "secret" of the LOS.

Spent 3 years in Korat starting 1968...as what was commonly called a Tech-Rep.  Worked with US military as a civilian...arguably the most fun years of my young life...
