Rimmer
Jomtien 2nd Road construction to finish in April PATTAYA:-- The construction currently being undertaken on Jomtien 2nd Road, which started June 6, is scheduled to finish on April 1, 2020. Pattaya City hired Chokdee Engineer Products Co., Ltd. and Thai Tong Lee Co., Ltd. to reinforce the concrete surface and install rainwater drain pipes, as well as upgrade traffic signs and street lights to TISI standards. Pattaya’s deputy city manager, Sutham Khetpetch, took a team of officials out to the construction site Oct. 21 to check on the progress. They found it to be about 15% complete. Sutham said the contractors have been instructed to continue work 24 hours a day, Monday through Thursday, but must shut down for the weekend starting at 5pm on Fridays. At that time, they must open the road to traffic and ensure machinery and materials are out of the way in a safe place to avoid accidents. Popular Post johng
Hope they will sort out the "whoops" Quote Whoops: Whoops, are a series of smaller (sometimes scary big though) moguls or hills in succession. To get thru them fastest possible you need enough speed to be able to skip along the tops. You blitz them. Not easy for beginners or intermediates. "ruts" Quote Rutted or Ruts: Used to describe track conditions. “That corner is so rutted out.” Tires have been digging into the dirt causing long ruts. This can be very hard to ride, especially if you’re not used to it. and of course the potholes. Would also be nice if the put the roundabout back in...traffic flowed much easier..though it did cause "some" confusion to "some" motorists ???? 2
Emdog
"...upgrade traffic signs and street lights to TISI standards." Yeah, right. Put in crosswalk with signals, flashing lights, etc near my condo 3? 4? years ago on second road. All told, perhaps functioned twice for about 4 weeks in total. Chang_paarp
Unfortunate date selected for completion. A day or two either way to avoid the obvious jokes would have been easy, it is not as if it is the end of week. Then again who said the authorities don't have a sense of humour?

mikebell
Is this the original construction or the reconstruction to fix all the flaws on the first one or .... just another scheme to replace the disappearing beach scam?

You had to sometimes wait a bit to get in the traffic flow but not long. Now, you sit at a very long traffic light and there have been times when we have had to sit through 2 cycles before we got through.

Yes that road ( Thepraya ? ) took a very long time to get done it was a muddy/dusty pot holed mess for years. Jomtien Second road also had its delays... this photo from 2009..I believe the condo residents ( you can see the 2 towers either side of the road ) didn't want to give up their swimming pool ? If you mean Jomtien Second road then it finally (fully) opened in 2013..I know because they left the electricity pylons in the middle of the road for a couple of weeks. lonewolf99
Yes, possibly one of the longest scam construction projects on a road that basically takes you up to a highway where you have to travel a mile back to do a U turn to carry on going south..... In 2005/6 this was a narrow lane that ran from Soi 7 down through delightful woodland to Soi 9 ? if I remember rightly. At that time Thrapaya road looked like it had been carpet bombed and was a health hazard with some seriously deep pot holes and excavations with no signs or barriers. Just up from the TMB bank was a ditch full of green slimy water running out of a drain that was full of frogs. This was never properly fixed or covered over and now has a row of shop units and 7/11 over the top of it. The paving slabs still lift and wobble at this location. The countless randomly installed bus stops, some just a few yards apart and others not near anything along its route, on a road with no bus service sums up a lot about the planning here. But like the songs say about all roads in LoS...This is the road to nowhere and the road to hell....
