PM praised for not responding to US appeal to postpone the ban on glyphosate

The Biothai Foundation has praised Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for not directly responding to an appeal from US under-secretary of agriculture for trade and foreign agricultural affairs, Mr. Ted A. McKinney, to postpone the ban on glyphosate, one of the three farm chemicals barred from use in Thailand by the National Hazardous Substances Committee earlier this week.

In his letter, Mr. McKinney claimed glyphosate is among the most widely used and rigorously studied pesticides in the world, writing “In December 2017, the US Environmental Protection Agency released its draft human health risk assessment, concluding that glyphosate poses no meaningful risk to human health when used as authorized.  The EPA’s findings are consistent with scientific reviews conducted by others, including Japan, the European Union, Australia and the Joint Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations’ World Health Organization Meeting on Pesticide Residues.”

Biothai said, in its Facebook post today, that Prime Minister Prayut should not react to Mr. McKinney’s appeal, and should leave it to an appropriate department head at the Agriculture Ministry to respond to the letter. He cited the case of Vietnam, when head of the Department of Plant Protection, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, was assigned to respond to a similar appeal from the US.

the damage that Trump incurs will take two more elections to straighten out, in the meantime with the approaching economic downturn the average American will be looking for his 2nd (or 3rd) job to support his family - a situation that already exists for many - maga, lol ...

It's not about Trump.

It's about the USA, and the rest of the "Farang" countries growing some spine and disallowing Asia to steal their way past us before it's too late.

As for the USA economy, i think 99% of informed people don't share your opinion.

Can you find Tiny Thailand? Maybe you'll need a magnifying glass

What an idiot! That's really going well for China! What an idiot shining a spotlight on Thailand. USA kind of overlooks Thailand due to its strategic position which is dimensioning as friendship with Vietnam increases but now this idiot has put that spotlight firmly on Thailand and effecting USA $ what will the US see 300% tax on its goods laws they said were in place never being actioned. Maybe this will wake up the UK and the EU.

Very good point maybe but do Thai farmers know how to use it and how much and how often?

I saw a crop being sprayed here the day before it was harvested and send to market!!

Guess it was posted too quick,  did he not see that Trump suspended 40 billion of trade goods for not responding on time?????

Sense Trump was elected my taxes went down and I don't have to pay a penelty for not having insurance as was required under obama care

An off topic post has been removed.

being a simple person, I am amazed.

(1) Thailand takes a reasonable decision not to poison its population.
(2) USA tries to strongarm Thailand Local politics to change their decision because (a) they sell the chemicals and (b) Chinese do not buy from them the quantities of produce they bought before.
(3) Thailand Gov is not responding because it prefers not to poison their population with dodgy local and foreign produce.

Now against that background it seems that we have a large crowd of passport chauvinistic supremists on site reacting with comments ridiculing the actions of the Thai Government.

And I thought only Trump-Cult members had lost the capacity of critical thinking.
Guess I will have to go back to the desert and shout there.
Amazing.

Well at least the deputy PM and Mananya will be able to get a job at Biothai when the <deleted> hits the fan in a couple of days time.

I suspect the PM is taking a back seat in this issue.

Since he was not at the decision making meeting to ban it.
