Contact list on new phone mostly duplicates plus

Just got an Infinix Android phone after my Samsung sh-t the bed.

Very helpful phone shop transferred a lot of stuff.

Ive noticed that the contact list is very long, think wife said 700+

I see that most or all contacts are duplicated, triplicated or worse.

See the photo.

in fact the next contact off the bottom of the photo is x5.........quintuplicated?

AFAIK he put all the contacts on one card and also backed up to gmail

What would a clever man do?

Thanks

Ah important information

Wife discovered that the contacts do not all have a phone number.......not at all.

All have a name of course.

Some have a phone number.

Some have an email address.

Some have nothing but the name.

She's having a look if she can match the above types to the colour circles on the left.

Edit: Colours don't seem to match content

Most I've found so far is 6 contacts the same name.

Four had the same tel no

One had a different tel no

On had no tel no or anything

A smart phone is only something I use because real phones no longer seem to be supported by the current 3 or 4 G strings.

In my last change had what I needed on the SIM card so maybe see if that is not your case also - if it is you could erase the numbers on the card.  But as said Android could be an asteroid for all I know.

At my Samsung you can select at contacts "Contacts to display" in the upper left area where the contacts are shown. There you can select from which source contacts should be shown. If you don't have it there look in the menu at contacts for such a setting.

This looks well worth a go thanks

No worries, had the same issue as you and it worked a treat. No doubt there's other similar apps out there but that one still has a good rep from the looks of it.

Afraid I can’t find anything that looks worthwhile.
Will try the contacts optimizer from Salerno
