March 27, 200719 yr Have you seen this? On Sukhumvit Soi 18, right up near Sukhumvit, there's a sign posted up saying "Airport taxi 600 baht" and a collection of rather dubious/unofficial looking taxis (some appear just to be regular old cars) waiting for customers to take up their offer!!!!
March 27, 200719 yr yes I saw that bella...makes me laugh at the ridiculous price given the state of the cars. but i guess they are thinking that for some customers staying across the road at rembrandt, where the hotel asks 1400 one way to airport, people might prefer to pay 600 to these dubious cars claiming to be taxis
March 27, 200719 yr So what's the big deal? I see that all over and unsuspecting tourists pay the price
March 28, 200719 yr Cripes, I only pay 650 fixed price airport to Pathum Thani (it's about 500 on the meter going the other way), there's one born every minute (tourist that is). "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Is it legal? Does anyone know where Tiger Woods' mother is from (BKK vs other province)? Thank you.
March 29, 200719 yr Of course it's legal. A seller can ask any price (realistic or fantastically high) for their product or service. It's then up to the buyer to decide if he wants to accept or not. If he says yes, where is the scam. For the 1000th time, it's called the free market. As for Tiger's mum, i believe she's from Buriram or Khon Kaen. I'm pretty sure it's Buriram.

Better known as "unmetered". At Ekkamai bus terminal, you always have several of them parked all day (for months and years) where 10 mins parking is 20B. That's the only place where I saw them, don't know what "expert" advice is "make sure taxi is metered" when those taxis are so rare that I had to take a picture of them (will post it tonight if I remember). Hard to believe those cars can make it to the airport.
