BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister and Minister of Defence has held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, thanking Bahrain for its support in addressing the southern border provinces crisis in Thailand within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation framework, and inviting Bahrain’s investment in the EEC.

Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Khalifa made a courtesy call on Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha upon his arrival in Thailand, to attend the signing ceremony of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

The Prime Minister said Thailand has been treating Bahrain as a friendly partner in the Middle East and the Muslim community, stressing a willingness to promote more bilateral cooperation between the two nations, to cover more areas and yield more concrete outcomes. He than congratulated Bahrain on becoming a party to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia during a period where Thailand holds the community’s chairmanship.

He said the Thai government is willing to facilitate more interactions between Bahrain and ASEAN, and thanked Bahrain for its support of Thailand on the international stage, especially in efforts to solve the crisis in Thailand’s southern border provinces within the framework of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)

The Bahraini Foreign Minister meanwhile, stressed Bahrain’s priorities in its relationship with Thailand at all levels, and the country’s aim to have Thailand as its gateway into the Southeast Asian region.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister invited the private sector of Bahrain to consider making more investment in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor project.

Do you think he could have made his name any longer than that? Just try saying that without cracking up.

1.6 million people and Thailand products are overpriced as the baht is strong. Only thing I could see is Thailand buying their oil.

As for helping solve the insurgency in the south, that will only end when Thailand gives back the land area called Pattani.

Yes, nothing has more credibility of allegedly democratic Thailand PM Prayut thanking an absolute monarchy for his handling of the "southern crisis."

As Thailand is one of the few countries that has a North Korean Embassy, will Prayut be thanking Kim Jung-On for his handling the crisis should Kim offer it?

Perhaps it might be more productive that Prayut look to The Philippines for its solution of ending the Moro Islamic Liberation Front insurgency.

PS: it's the same solution suggested by Malaysia.
