Greetings

I understand that applictants for this type of visa must apply for this type of visa in their own country - that is their country of citizenship. At the moment, I am an Australian working in lao, I plan to stay here for another 12 months. Rather than return to Australia to apply for this visa would it be possible to submit an application either here in Lao or with the immigtration authortities in Bangkok.

You may ask why not wander down to the Bangkok Embassy and ask them. I tried that tack but didnt get very far, so I thought I'd raise the question on this board instead

Sorry but its back to Oz for you mate. However, do you intend to be here more than 90 days in 180 ? If not, then you can just use the 30 day entry stamps. You could get a tourist visa if staying in LOS long time but you say you are working in Laos so I presume trips here would be limited in duration.

Unless you're spending so much time in Thailand and thus not working in Laos, I don;t see why you would need more than the 30 day entry stamps.

On what grounds are you entitled to an 'O' class visa?

If you are married to a Thai you can get one easily in KL or Singapore (Sing ask you to show 400k in a Thai bank), otherwise it's as above ^^^

If you meet the requirements for a non imm O, i.e. married to a Thai or over 50, you can get one at Vientiane, which as you are already in Laos I presume this would be your nearest. However they will only give you a single entry (90 days). If you want more you will have to go to K.L. or Singapore or back home.

Yup. I got one last month at Viantiene with just a copy of my passport (and the real one with me), a copy of the marriage cert and a copy of my wife's ID. No problems at all and the next day I collected my 90 day non-imm O.
