PHUKET: Lt Col Charoen Bunsin, Special Investigation Officer at the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), joined officers from the Marine Department, Phuket Tourist Police and Department of Tourism conducting a safety inspection at the Asia Marina pier in Rassada yesterday (Nov 28).

Lt Col Charoen explained that his focus was on tour operators illegally controlled by foreigners.

“From our inspections [yesterday], we did not find any businesses owned by foreigners, but we have to investigate further with relevant officials’ information. We did find some suspicious irregularities and believe that there may be some businesses run by nominees. The DSI will return to investigate these further,” Lt Col Charoen said.

Nothing will happen. The Chinese operators have to much power and Thailand's becoming desperate for tourists.

I was thinking illegal nominee shareholders would be paperwork fraud, not something you can "inspect at the spot". Its not like all shareholders have to be on the boat at all times.

I was thinking the exact same thing but maybe they might find Chinese workers who'd lead them up the food chain or documents aboard. Dunno

Those workers would be employees and need a work permit. So if they have none (or even if they have one) they might point at whoever hired them which should be a registered employee of the company (paying taxes) or is the real and unregistered owner...

Possible.

Guess thats their play.

Same old xenophobic BS. Same old well-used cliches. Same old story.

Yet nothing ever changes.

It's really hilarious. The country is wide open for financial scams, fraud and abuse.

They spend $$$ and resources tracking down petty crime and issues. I bet policing was better in the US 75 years ago than Thailand today. Maybe 100.

Probably a few million Indian and African Americans that'd take that bet....
