Better World Green has joined up with Bangkok officials in collecting worn-out or broken appliances including televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, cellphones and computers from residents all over Bangkok, Pollution Control Department (PCD) director-general Pralong Damrongthai said this week.

The collections, which kicked off on December 14 and will continue until December 29, aims to make a significant dent in some 100,000 tonnes of broken and unused appliances kept by household for lack of anywhere to get rid of them.

It was important to handle unused appliances properly so that they will not have negative effects on the environment and public health, Pralong said.

Wouldn't it be handy to give some idea of where and when these collections would be happening  rather than just bragging about it?

erm and what they pan to do with them................big  hole and bury my  guess

Sounds like a great way to get people to buy new appliances. Will they recycle the materials or just dump them somewhere then hold a big green party for themselves. Maybe they have a buyer in Africa for them which probably isn't a solution. Whatever it is in the end, I put my bet on no real green solution here. Thais are still learning what doing good for the environment is from all I've seen around.
