Throw thieving foreigners in jail, says fed up Phi Phi shopkeeper: "That'll teach 'em!"

Every merchant and shop owner know how or should know how to factor losses and damages into the item or product price, there are shoplifters all over the world and no one end up in jail, cost of doing business...

so your saying no one anywhere in the world gets jail time for theft by shoplifting, ( https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/may/17/walmart-shoplifting-helping-hike-sentences-court) and that its a part of doing business, what a short sighted view, i think if enough evidence they should be shipped straight out of the country, no one else will then have to do business with them.

It is nine months since I was in LOS and that is obviously too long, as the first thing I did when I saw this story was to blow up the page to view the "female" foreign shoplifter - has anyone else done this ? She looks like an 18 gallon beer keg sitting on two tree stumps ! Thank goodness for Thai ladies, including the missus who at 48 is still a thousand times more attractive than this petty thief. Even with alcohol being included, I doubt her chances of scoring a date in LOS any time soon. Reminds me of the time a girl in a pub in London, when I rejected her advances said "you are drunk"  - to which I replied, "yes and you are ugly, but tomorrow I'll be sober." Happy New Year all on TV.

and what has that biased post got to do with the thread title, other to to let us know your misses is more attractive than a 18 gallon beer keg sitting on 2 tree stumps, not saying a lot for your misses, and also that you get chatted up by a women in a bar, because what your so good looking and she was so ugly.

This excerpted song lyric could be used to describe the decline in western tourists. ????

Let's do the same with Thai People! Thailand is not going to discriminate foreigners right? Oops they already do!

I say, why he doesn't put a sign in the entrance with "No foreigners allowed to enter" and see what that will do to his sales.

I guess his shop will have to close soon.

If he hates foreigners, dont want to sell to them, way to go.

In Pai on a recent trip, I saw a retailer on their Walking Street with a sign in their shop.. If you are caught stealing from my shop, you will pay 10x the marked price, and also be charged by the police..

I hate thieves, no matter where they do their crime. The thieves in Phi Phi should be fined

lots of money, then sent to Bangkok to be deported. Put their names and where they are from in the Bangkok Post and spread the news that thieves are not welcomed

in Thailand. I cannot believe the poster here who think the thieves should get away

with a slap on the wrist by making them pay the little money the clothes they stole

cost.

Geezer

I'm in two minds about this. On the one hand, theft is bad, but on the other the shopkeeper is part of the people that ruined Phi Phi, so I'd be happy if he and all his compatriots went broke and had to leave the island.

First time I went to Phi Phi there wasn't much there in the way of a town, shops etc, and it was FANTASTIC. Such a wonderful place. Now, because of all the building it's ruined. Such a shame to ruin paradise for greed.

Big Yellow Taxi song could have been written for what happened to Phi Phi.

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

sure but by that logic you could say that about near any place.. in 1974 pattaya was a sleepy beach town with a dusty road and a few bungalows...

Joni also said... all romantics meet the same fate, drunk and cynical and boring someone in some dark cafe

or something like that.. yes i remember the old days but aint no goin back.

I didn't know Winston Churchill was a member of Thai visa.

These Foreigners that steel, are Just A-moral People, they have the money, but they think that Society E.g. the Thais, have Cheated them ! ? ... So they think that they are just getting them back. ? ... Like their thinking ? ... "Every one cheats ! and Steals, .... So I will do it also"

...  I have friends in Australia that are just like this ... and also steel like this from shops there also.

Here it is pretty bad to do this, as the Thais have such low profit margins, like one theft wipes out a day or more Profit quite Possibly. ... This low Profit margin is what makes it Great for all of the rest of us here.

Like the Service factor is probably now the Biggest Variable cost from Country to Country, ... like Expensive in Europe and Australia, where Labor is expensive, ... so things are Expensive there, .... and Cheap here in Thailand, ....  so we should work to protect their system, for our own Benefit ! ... as well as theirs, ...  and let them ? Well Help them ? Try to stop the Sociopath A-moral Idiots.

...  And yes, just a Bit of Thai Goal time, just to warn them ! Would be OK I think.

... Though, re the Economy of it all, .... I have briefly looked at Prices in Discount outlets here, as I pass, and well, !!!! They now DO ! seem to be Pretty Bloody Expensive here also !!!

Well, if she was Russian, she might not have the Money ! ... Or well many Europeans now, as well, things are NOT Improving for the Western Woulds Workers, Re Wages any where. ... Still she would have enough and is just stealing because she is a Mild Sociopath and an Amoral person, who thinks that they have been hard done by, so have the right to do it. - I think. -

... She should do just a Little bit of Goal time, like waiting for a trial, then be convicted of theft, .... and then be let go, .... but 3 strikes and you are out, like get caught 3 times, and you are Deported I think ?

Discrimination! It aint against the law to be a racist but discrimination based on it is against the law. Lock this guy up for at the very least tarnishing what little is left of the tourism industry.

A Crim is a crim. Doesnt matter who they are or where they are from. If you dont want to deal with Foreign Crims than go work in a factory or something.

I take English is not your first language?

If caught then these thieves should face instant deportation. None of us law abiding Farangs want their kind here ruining our reputation.

Agreed 100%  why make thai's keep thieving scum from overseas in there jails, but i wonder how many of those thieving scum were overcharged by the same shop keeper.

Putting a hat on and continuing to browse and then walking out after a couple of minutes proves nothing. You, and I for that matter can easily forget we are weari g the hat costing 100 baht. What's the point of prosecuting? Waste of time and likely criminalising someone who is not a criminal...

Are the items that are for sale in his shop authentic brand name products or are they counterfeit products?

If he wants the foreigners locked up for stealing things from his shop then he must also need to show that he wants Thai's who do the same thing treated the same way. A thief is a thief no matter what nationality they are or by what means they use to steal from others.
