Thousands of people hit by recent storms

More than 6,700 households have been affected and over 12,300 rai of farmland damaged by the recent storms that hit six provinces.

 

Government Spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat said this week that Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has received reports from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation of damages from storms in the six northern provinces. “According to the Department’s reports, 20 districts, 50 subdistricts and 6,782 households were affected, while 12,365 rai of farmlands were damaged,” she said. Detailed damage reports divided by province are as follows:

 

Chiang Rai: 3,354 households in 80 villages, 17 subdistricts and five districts -- Mae Jan, Chiang Saen, Mae Fa Luang, Phan and Mae Saruay -- were affected.

 

Mae Hong Son: People in 37 households in five villages, theee subdistricts and two districts -- Muang and Pangmapha -- were affected.

 

Lampang: 282 households in nine villages, five subdistricts and five districts -- Muang, Ngao, Mae Mo, Wang Nua and Meuangpan -- were affected.

Chiang Mai: 2,564 households in 73 villages, 13 subdistricts and three districts -- Doi Lo, Sanpatong and Mae Wang -- were affected.

 

Phrae: 520 households in 34 villages, 11 subdistricts and four districts -- Song, Rong Kwang, Long and Nong Muang Khai -- were affected.

 

Lamphun: People in 25 households in Ton Thong subdistrict in Muang district were affected.

 

“The prime minister has ordered the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to coordinate with military divisions in nearby provinces and related agencies to survey the damage thoroughly and deliver foods, medicines and clothes to storm victims,” said Narumon. “They have also been told to provide construction materials, especially rooftop tiles, and assist people in fixing their homes.”

 

People affected by the storm who need immediate assistance can call Disaster Hotline at 1784, which is available 24/7, she added.

As Thailands not at imminent threat of a war anytime soon I guess they have some spare time on their hands.. give the generals something to do too...

As global warming introduces more energy into the weather system, expect stronger and more frequent storms,.

Unfortunately , it will get worse before it gets any better (if it ever does) so contingencies need to be made,
