Firstly - Happy New Year to one and all.

Fifteen years smooth sailing, but now about to hit the rocks:

I have to go to The UK for about 2 months, which means that I won’t be here to renew my spousal extension. Most of the 2 months, I won’t actually be in The UK, and will be flying back to London to catch my return flight. I have just arranged the transfer of money to a Thai bank, but it won’t be seasoned until 1-2 weeks after I go, assuming it'll arrive during the next week.

My current plans:

1. I have 7 consecutive spousal extensions – Is it possible to get a 90 day extension to cover the period I’m away, giving me time to apply for a 1 year extension when I come back?

Failing number 1 - I probably won’t be able to arrange a 90 day visa to visit my wife, so will return to Thailand under the visa exemption scheme.

2. Arrive in Thailand – Do I need health insurance for the 30 day visa?

3. I’ll be returning on a return ticket, so I won’t have a ticket to exit Thailand. If I book a ticket to Cambodia/Malaysia/Singapore, etc, will that suffice?

4. Am I correct in saying that I can transfer the 30 day visa to a Non-O at an immigration office, which is then valid for 90 days?

5. During the last 30 days of the Non-O, I can extend for a 1 year spousal extension?

Thanks in advance for any help. Into the new year with a bang; story of my life.

1. You can only apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife. Have you gotten one before since your started doing extensions of stay?

2. No

3. No unless you are entering visa exempt.

4. Yes you can if needed.

5. Yes

When does your current extension end?

It seems the money would be in the bank for the required 2 months if you got a 60 day extension.

Thanks for your quick reply, Joe.

I thought it was a 90 day extension, but 60 days will cover it; gives me 1 week to apply when I get back.  So, yes, I'll apply for the 60 day extension.  I've not had one before, only annual extensions.

Paperwork - Originals plus  copies of passport, marriage certificate, wife's house book and id card and 1900Baht.  Plus the wife.  Do I need a Kor Ror 2?  Anything else?

That should be all that you will need.

Be sure you get a re-entry permit when you do it.
