Hello,

I am  South-East Asian by ethnicity but I have an EU passport. So I will be entering Thailand with my EU passport under the visa exception scheme. I have never been to Thailand before. My accommodation and flights have been booked, airport transfers,  accommodation and activities paid for, so I don't think I am spending 10,000 THB for staying in Thailand for a few days. If I do, I am mostly going to use my credit card and I don't feel comfortable having cash with me.

My itinerary is as follows:

LHR - HKT : Stay in Phuket for 4 days

HKT - KUL : Stay in Kuala Lumpur for 2 days

KUL - BKK : Stay in Bangkok for 1 night

BKK - LHR : Return to UK

Given that I will be going in and out of Thailand to/from 2 different ports within a week, I am a little bit nervous that I might be denied entry at BKK. Also, I am very confused with the amount of cash that I have to show in the event that an IO questions me.

So here are my questions:

1) Will my itinerary raise eyebrows in the immigration control when I enter BKK and might potentially be profiled as a person with an intent to work/stay illegally in Thailand?

2) Is it 10,000 THB or 20,000 THB that I have to have with me at the entry ports?

3) Is it okay to bring in £300 British Pounds in cash and use it as a proof for adequate finance?

4) Do I need to apply for a re-entry visa?

5) Are there premium lanes in arrival for travellers in business class with Malaysian Airlines?

Thank you

John

hi

1\ no

just in case keep with you all the prove of yours booking for your stay

hotels, transfers, activities, tickets planes and so on

2\ and 3\ it's 20 000 baths or the equivalent (450 pounds)

http://www.thaiembassy.org/london/en/services/84498-FAQ.html

4\ no

5\ i don't know but probably yes

you should contact the airlines and ask them the question.

my advice, stay relax and enjoy your trip

you are a tourist like thousands of others and no matter of your

etnicity, for immigration only count your passport validity and your respect of the visa rules.

Hello king of the mountain. Thank you for your answers. I did check the link above however Questions 1 and 4 have conflicting values for the British guy it says he needs 20,000 THB per person but for the Lithuanian its 10,000 THB. Also, within the same website on a different page  http://www.thaiembassy.org/london/en/services/7742/84451-Tourist-Visa.html . It also says 10,000 for tourist exempt.

Can I use GBP cash as a proof rather than THB cash?

Not sure why he chose FAQ page for info when it is here on this page. http://www.thaiembassy.org/london/en/services/7742/84451-Tourist-Visa.html

Foreigners entering Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption scheme must show the documents listed below at the port of entry:

  • Proof of adequate finances for the duration of stay in Thailand i.e. traveller’s cheque or cash equivalent to 10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family.

You will not have a problem doing your trip as posted.

Immigration is only concerned about people doing out/in trips to live here. You certainly will not fit that profile.
