A Thai woman went on Twitter to claim that a friend who took a foreigner to visit Wat Pho was forced to pay 2,000 baht tea money to the tourist police after they were accused of being an illegal guide.

The Twitter user said no receipt was issued. The police have denied it but the head of the tourist police in Bangkok has set up a committee of inquiry.

Illegal guides can be jailed for a year and/or fined 100,000 baht. There have been many crackdowns in recent years notes Thaivisa.

In this case Siam Rath reported that a security guard at the popular Bangkok temple had alerted the authorities that there was an illegal guide operating without ID.

Their report suggested that the person who took the foreigner to Wat Pho denied acting as a guide at all. They claimed they had been hired for 6 hours at 600 baht an hour just to take pictures.

But they claimed 2,000 baht changed hands to effect their release.

The police said they took the person to Phra Ratchawang police station but they were let off with a warning. The police believed they were indeed acting as an illegal guide.

Chief of the tourist police Pol Lt-Gen Chettha Komonwanthana has ordered a full and transparent investigation into the allegations that a back hander was paid.

Senior police spokesman Pol Col Krissana Pattanacharoen said that it was no defence to say that guides didn't know the rules.

I sure don't need that in Singapore, we drink real good coffee at the breakfast and are ready to go to the parks and malls...so much to see there and it's all beautifull.

Also the Indonesian restaurants are fantastic...rendang and sayour lodde with rice...much better than thai food.

Another reason for some to by-pass Thailand, the corruption added to everything else is just killing the golden goose.

The golden goose died years ago.

so, the next time some farang wakes up with the Sun,

and his new Bargfinedgirlfriend from the night before; takes him out to see the sights!

 - these possibilities are endless for the fine-guide-scam

600 per hour, for 6 hours? Not bad, having profit of 1600 even after paying the cops.

A girl meets a guy in a bar. They go to a hotel for the night. In the morning the guy gives a girl 2000 baht for the sick baby she has.  She's not a prostitute.

Same thing. This girl was hired to take photos, not be a guide.

A lot of girls on dating sites advertise the fact that they will show the guy around Thailand. I guess they travel around, she tells him about the places, sleep together and in the end the guy pays some kind of fee.

Was she hired to take photos or is it more correct to say she was hired for 600Baht to guide the hirer to agreed places so that the hirer could take the photos he/she wanted?

Loads to do in Singapore. Many great bars, clubs, restaurants and pubs.

Never boring when I'm there.

No she isn't a prostitute . She is a lady of pleasure that all.

Lots of Thai ladies are happy to show you around I suppose it was because she was getting paid, what a load of bollicks

If I met a 'lady' who wanted 2000 baht to stay with me for the night who is going to do the guiding to the hotel room??
