Dog attack: Pit Bull savages mother and toddler in NE Thailand

Picture: Daily News

A mother and her two year old son were left with serious injuries in hospital after a savage Pit Bull attack.

Pornthip, 31, was hanging out her washing on Sunday and her son Chaichana, two and four months, was playing happily on his tricycle when the dog struck.

Pornthip turned in horror to see her little boy being dragged into some banana trees by the ferocious beast.

She ran to help him and managed to get hold of him offering herself to the merciless attack of the vicious canine.

Both were horrendously injured - especially the boy whose skull was showing.

A 15 year old boy tried to get the dog off by getting a stick but in the end a neighbor came out and shot a gun in the air that scared off the dog. Both victims were rushed to hospital.

A neighbor in rented accommodation keeps one female Pit Bull and one male. The male that attacked was subsequently taken away to be kept elsewhere.

The neighbor has visited the victims and promised to pay all hospital bills.

The landlord wants the dogs out permanently.

Pornthip still plans to make a police report about the matter.

Thaivisa notes that the "pit bull" is a type of dog rather than a specific breed and is descended from terriers and bulldogs.

Stupidity dictates that by doing so the neighbours would  have  beaten him as well as forever souring his  name.

Dogs here have more rights than humans, more's  the pity.

With the the mother and kid being savaged by the dog it would be a lot more than stupid to try a shot like that.

Where I live, Nong Han in Chiang Mai, there is a horrendous dog problem. An elderly neighbour next door has 5 dogs. Virtually every Thai house on the street has four or more dogs. Most of them do not have a fence and do not put the dog on a chain. The net result is that you have dogs coming at you when you walk the street, often in packs of 5 or more. Not to mention the dogs tearing open rubbish bags and urinating all over the bin, fence, everywhere.

I only go for walks carrying a big stick. But thanks to reading the above article I will now get gun that fires blanks on Lazada, as it appears the noise is more effective than any stick. Also ordered Spyderco knife just in case. The situation is that bad here.

Same on our estate, nobody ever takes a dog for a walk, they get bored, vicious and half mad. Never go out without a metal baton, might come in handy for some of the people as well

Do tell how exactly they breed them to be violent?

what a disgusting looking dog, like said earlier... blast it's head off, won't attack anyone after that.

where are all the 'those dogs don't bite' lovers' and 'i have 2 and they won't bite' who spew out the rubbish that dogs don't attack unless provoked <deleted>.

Horrible story.

All pitbulls in the world should be killed.

Hopefully the young boy and his mother get proper treatment.

Dogs that can seriously hurt or even kill people should not be allowed.

Today's pit bull is a descendant of the original English bull-baiting dog—a dog that was bred to bite and hold bulls, bears and other large animals around the face and head. When baiting large animals was outlawed in the 1800s, people turned instead to fighting their dogs against each other.

There we have the big problem, the people who think they can control them. I met a guy once who had multiple scars and difficulty to walk after a pit bull attack, turned out it was his own dog, he said "he didn't mean to hurt me....." go figure!

Glad to know you can use google , so tell me again how exactly do they breed them to be violent?

maybe you missed it but dog fighting is outlawed and has been for decades.

In the photo I see very distinctly a female;
If she attacked the kid it was because she did not feel secure with regard to her BBs; see her swollen and hanging breasts.

Put everything on the back of the animal as usual, forgetting, of course, the bulls.hit made by the mother and the kid who may have been and even probably tried to approach one of the BB of the female dog.

Nearly every days , I ride a mountain bike in heveas forests where the owners live with very many dogs;
very often these bark and even come towards me running;
how is it that never a single dog and among them pitbulls and other similar dogs have never attacked or bit me when I am very far from being fluent in Thai;
simply because I love dogs, I have four at home ,no pitbulls, only little ones , , I have had others before,

I have never beaten them;
when I stop, I speak to them in Lao and I crouch down to be at eye level; many are very shy, some, mainly BBs and females approach me and I can pet them;
and when I leave, the barking concert starts again, but I guess it's to say "goodbye" since I don't speak the dog ...

A stick and / or a cyclist's bottle filled with water; a small squirt and you will see them quickly turn around.
By cons if the cops stop you with a gun, even if it fires blank, you're going to be in dirty sheets ...
Never forget that in Thailand sport number 1 is delation.
and then learn a little Thai or Lanna, the local language, and speak with them;
you will see, it helps ..

Thanks, the cyclist bottle is actually not a bad idea. Keep hydrated and shew dogs away. I like it.

I doubt a police patrol will check me for weapons in Nong Han though. Far as I can tell the sole job of police in Thailand is to collect fines from scooter riders and to take accident reports.

Pathetic attempt to justify the actions of a vicious dog that has just attacked a child and mother!

There's no indication in the article that that is a photo of the actual dog involved. It's probably just a stock photo.
