Police in Bang Yai, Nonthaburi north west of Bangkok have fined a man who was caught on tape begging after getting out of a 1.5 million baht Toyota Fortuner car parked at a temple.

There was a horde of press waiting for Somporn Keuyen, 65, when he arrived at the police station and he asked to be escorted inside and was given a surgical mask to obscure his identity.

He let others do the talking for him.

Pornsawan, the head of the local handicapped association said that people need a permit to beg and Lung Somporn didn't have one. She would be happy to assess him and issue one if necessary.

The police said that Somporn had only been begging for 2 or 3 times. He got money from his passion for singing though he claimed it was only 100 - 200 baht a day.

His shrimp farm business had gone under and his pork business had gone belly up, they said.

He was fined 1,000 baht.

Police said that he had told them his begging days were over.

That would be the Elite begging permit. Only available to the premium beggar

Is that permit a new add on to the Elite visa?

The police said that Somporn had only been begging for 2 or 3 times.

The first time was all of 2018 and the second time was all of 2019.

"His shrimp farm business had gone under and his pork business had gone belly up, they said"

I also hear that his aquarium business tanked. His Phone business was cut off and his food business went down the toilet.

his meat business went rotten, his fruit business went pear shaped, his fireworks business went up in smoke.....

This brings back memories of the Sherlock Holmes story,

"the man with the twisted lip", were a well todo man working

in the city, finds he can earn more dressing as a beggar .

"... getting out of a 1.5 million baht Toyota Fortuner".

Or, much more likely, a B350/500k Fortuner.

Yes it is, that's why he was fined B1000.
