Representatives from both the government and private sectors, including citizens in Pattaya, banded together at Pattaya City Hall today (February 3) to encourage Chinese people to overcome the coronavirus crisis.

They conveyed the message, “We are representative of Pattaya people. We wish all Chinese people will overcome this crisis. We encourage you and we will fight together.”

They also shouted, “Zhōng guó Jiā yóu (中国 加油)”, which means “China, don’t give up” in an attempt to cheer up Chinese people.

Pattaya Mayor Sonthaya Khunpluem said the spreading coronavirus is affecting people worldwide in terms of disease, economy, and tourism.

“Each year, three million Chinese tourists among 18 million tourists worldwide have visited Pattaya,” he said. “The participation of all sectors in this event aims to encourage Chinese people to overcome this crisis and also shows that Pattaya City has measures in place to tackle this problem for all tourists.”

The World Health Organisation has announced the coronavirus epidemic as an international public health emergency as the number of people killed increases day by day, while infected people have been found in 18 countries.

The virus outbreak has hit domestic tourism, especially at Nongnooch Garden, which was seeing 3,000-4,000 visitors a day.

They are hoping wearing yellow shirts and waving Chinese flags are going to make a difference?

It is a little more than just China.

The real reason for the fear.

"please don't die, we need your money".

How innovative, this will make all the difference, I would expect new transmissions to start declining immediately!

I don't understand the point of this

are they saying - if you are in Thailand come to pattaya you are welcome ?

How about asking them to stop eating meat for a year?  If you want to be healthy in China, don't eat the meat.  On the way to work, would see people heaving their cuts out, blowing chunks.  All the years I lived there I never got sick once.

Well that should do it.  Seems to me this is an attempt to lift the spirits of the hoteliers with empty hotels; the tour bus operators; the paragliding parasites and the increasingly desperate Boys-in-Brown and their meterless taxi driving pals.

How desperate can a country become?

I'd prefer to have some killer flu than not eat meat.

Your kids can safely wear their Batman costume now in Pattaya, few weeks ago they might have been subject to cannibalism.

Soon Pattaya will sent their own busses to bring them back.

A meaningless but harmless gesture. If it makes them feel better, well, OK.

That's the problem meat eaters or in this case bats, before it has been chickens and pigs and lets not forget BSE in cows. Not eaten it in 48 years, i'd rather have the flu!

How are they expected to get here, walk?

You are sounding similar to a reformed smoker!

We really don't care what issues you have at home, in your life, in your home country, your friends, animals, relatives, anyone!!!

just get over it and give us your money

then you can die

As usual, a photo op to display that ignorance is a poor treatment for what is going on. Waving money tied to sticks is the real messege.

To watch this makes me somehow sad. They never missed us Farangs so much ????

There seems to be no end when guided by the greedy, power hungry lot on top of the pile. Such antics are laughable and so sad in that they cannot see the futility in such performances. It's all about show, not measurable substance.

More Russians than ever before - went to the Phratamnak Night Bazaar last night for a look see - cheap as chips and was   probably the only non-Russian amongst a thousand folk that I could see.

BSE in cows was because some $$$ ass.... used sick sheep brains (needed to be destroyed) to be fed to cows...
