ExpatOK
"TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — As many experts question the veracity of China's statistics for the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak, Tencent over the weekend seems to have inadvertently released what is potentially the actual number of infections and deaths, which were astronomically higher than official figures. "Most ominously, the death toll listed was 24,589, vastly higher than the 300 officially listed that day." https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/3871594 Edited February 6, 2020 by ExpatOK

Sheryl
Unsubstantiated report and scare mongering. Topic closed. If you want reliable information try here https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/summary.html Number of cases and deaths is in constant flux. It takes time to confirm if someone has coronavirus; at any point in time there are many people being investigated who may or may not later prove to have it, and that includes people who died (tests can continue on samples taken even after the person has died). The dates on which numbers are announced are not the dates that people became infected and diagnosis occurs more quickly in some places than in others. And numbers do get revised as more information comes to light. This is not a sign of some sort of sinister cover up. It simply reflects the breakneck pace at which health departments and epidemiologists are having to work, and the complexity of sorting out from amongst all deaths which ones can reasonably be ascribed to the new virus. No easy task at any time and made harder by concurrent influenza outbreak in parts of Asia. 1
