25 confirmed coronavirus cases in Thailand

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health reported that Thailand has 25 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. One of the patients, a taxi driver who was the first person in Thailand to be infected with the virus, has since recovered and has been discharged from hospital. So far, nine patients have recovered, while 16 others are recovering well.

Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, said the coronavirus-infected taxi driver has been cleared and discharged from the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute. Mr. Anutin said the driver had fully recovered, but officials are closely monitoring his relatives and those who recently came into contact with him. Their condition to date remains healthy.

The taxi driver said he was happy following his recovering. He was initially concerned because it is a new strain of virus. The driver said he would like to thank each of the medical personnel who cared for him.

In Thailand, there have been 25 confirmed coronavirus cases, nine of whom have been discharged. The other 16 patients remain in hospitals and are responding well to treatment. Meanwhile, the condition of a 70-year-old tour bus driver, who also has tuberculosis, is stable and is under close supervision of medical personnel.

I'm completely unaware of the system in Thailand - but are these definately real figures, or could there be grounds to say they are hiding true figures?

You could definately see why they would be motivated to downplay everything.

Don't believe a word they say. Just a few days back it was announced by a government minister how there is no chance Thailand will run out of face masks.

Today they're talking about how to make your own due to shortages.

So there's no independent verification of the numbers they give out ?

As disinformation if rife and often practiced in Thailand, one should take any figures coming out of officials who has a clear agendas not to fully disclose the true figures, with a big pinch of salt, including the miraculous recoveries of 2 people already, this is owing to the simple reason of not scare the few tourists that are still contemplating to come visit Thailand...

I'm sure that cabbie will find 500,000,000 baht cash in the back of his taxi (in the next day or so) and return it to it's rightful owner

Tip of the iceberg.. estimates are its not even going to peak in Wuhan for at least another month, rest of China over the next 3 months and then the rest of the world after that... forget 2020 being anything other than ncov pandemic rising.

Who pays if you get ill? Travel insurance won't cover it as it's an epidemic which are pretty much always excluded.

There is a lot of the standard Thai BS going on here.  Yeah I know Thais are immune from claiming ownership to any problems. Loss of face and all that cr@p.

A gov. Minister said publicly yesterday that gov. would cover the cost of treatment for anyone who gets sick, presumably this is an incentive to persuade people to come forward rather than not seek treatment on the basis of cost. But as always there's a question whether "anyone" includes foreigners, I'm guessing it may not.

Thais are superior beings and therefore immune to all diseases

Nonsense, the UK media is now saying the Tencent figures were hacked and digitally altered, posters should stop pushing this scaremongering story designed just to upset people.

You can always rely on a Taxi driver story

Media releases from the Thai government vs Chinese government: same same. Read into that how you like.

Actually yes! Because if your scaremongering story was correct we would have seen similar death rates go sky high in other countries where the virus has been found and we haven't. Fact is only one person has died from the virus in the PI and one in HK.

A poster thinks it's funny when he gets fact checked yet thinks his own scaremongering is OK, strange and irresponsible behavior.https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

So why are they building 11 more massive hospitals?

Must be a nice extra income for the taxi driver to be in the media spotlight.

Because it's a big city with lots of people and the strategy is to contain the people who are sick in order to prevent spread....and because they can. BTW it's 2 new hospitals, not 11.

Except here I do not think they will acknowledge or attribute ANY deaths to the Coronoavirus.

Maybe if it's a foreigner.

And we're all (foreigners and Thais) going to end up paying for the medical costs.
