Video: After Anutin's rant: Foreigners arriving on Koh Phi Phi - some in masks some without

A video on the site of 77kaoded showed foreign tourists arriving on Koh Phi Phi in Krabi in the south of Thailand.

The media said that strict measures are in place to guard against the spread of the coronavirus and to inspire confidence among visitors.

Tourists were seen having their temperature taken by medical staff and using hand gel.

Some tourists were wearing face masks and some had decided not to do so.

The video followed criticism from Thailand's health minister Anutin Charnvirakul that a foreigner or foreigners in Bangkok did not accept his offer of a free mask.

He even suggested that "farang" should be thrown out for not wearing masks.

The minister was himself criticised after failing to show adequate contrition for his rant that included strong language.

Virus or not - if I felt the need to wear a mask on holiday anywhere in the world the whole time there - I would not be going

Primary reason for wearing a mask in Thailand - the air quality at major tourist destinations and cities - I now seem to have a constant cough caused by breathing the polluted air here, people were wearing masks long before any virus outbreak

When I keep my Condo windows open for any length of time it is not long before every surface is covered in a thick black dust - that is what we are breathing folks

If it continues Mr Health won't have to deport people for not wearing masks - they won't be coming period - nobody wants to go to a holiday destination and have to wear a mask 24/7 ………………...problem solved

So ! feeling the way that they do, did the Government stop these Tourists from landing on Koh Phi Phi. ? Were they assessed as being a health risk ? Were they asked to wear ( and were given ) face masks to use ?.

You can bet your Plums non of this happened because the Thais forgot to do it in the rush to Gouge money out of these people.

As long these masks are only good for the help with the very bad pollution i only wear it in cities like Bangkok or Pattaya! SURE not to prevent not to catch up the virus as this don't help! And an idiot of a thai health minister has to learn from the tourists whom he want to kick out!

We left Phuket Sunday, no hand gel everywhere, me as several Thai and Foreigners not wearing a mask.

The only hand gel i found was at Thai Lounge entrance.

Immigration require to place our hands on dirty fingerprint scan machine, often no hand gel available, who is more dangerous the virus or arrogant incompetence ?

You were leaving. Someone else's problem.

Sounds great, sure you will get a very interesting sun tan while wearing a mask on the ferry and islands.

I was at the local Big C today.  95%+ Thai people were not wearing masks.  So Anutin.  Are you going to kick them all out of the country too?  Or just stand by your racist tirade and kick out farangs whom you so obviously hate.
