Cruise trade association asks for mercy

The Cruise Ship Professional Association believes the Thai government could cope with any situation found aboard the wandering cruise ship Westerdam without putting its citizens at risk.

Thailand is the latest location where the ship’s officers have sought and been refused permission to dock.

Fear that someone among the crew – which includes 19 Thais – or 2,000-plus passengers, with more Thais among them, might be infected with the Covid-19 coronavirus has seen the ship turned away in Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines and the US territory of Guam.

In a statement on Wednesday (February 12), the association noted that permission to dock at Laem Chabang Port had been requested on Monday.

It said all passengers and crewmembers had been closely checked and were being monitored by medics onboard according to international standards and they’d been at sea for 20 days – ample time for anyone infected to begin displaying symptoms.

The association asked all relevant agencies and the public sector to demonstrate humanitarianism by getting the passengers and crew ashore, where they can be screened more closely.

Any infected people could be taken immediately to a properly equipped Thai hospital, it said.

This cruise ship is likely the safest place in Thailand right now - why would anyone want to get off and be exposed to a deadly virus they are currently safe from

Any ship can be resupplied by helicopters easily, happened twice to my ship

Family, next question?

Now it is getting interesting....let's see what they will do....

Thai warship is now escorting the ship.

"#westerdam is being escorted by a naval ship. Just another day in our life on the #westerdam captain says "dont be alarmed" ummm really?"

"The #Westerdam cruise ship is now south of Rayong and seems to be still heading for Laem Chabang to the north of Pattaya. According to passengers, they are now being escorted by a Thai warship. Onboard are at least 19 Thais."

I wouldn't be worried. If they try to scuttle it they'll likely miss and sink their own boat.

Having driven away big spending western tourists, Thailand needs the Chinese masses to keep its tourist industry workers occupied.

Preparations are under way to evacuate 21 Thai citizens on board Holland America’s MS Westerdam cruise ship and to provide necessary supplies to the ship, once there is a greenlight from the Thai government.

this is the warship:

"HTMS Bhumibol Adulyadej, Created in South Korea, This boat is the first ship in the High-Performance Frigate Boat Project of the Royal Thai Navy, Able to perform 3D combat operations on both the water surface, underwater and air. It active on January 7, 2019..."

Good.
And maybe the cruise trade association thinks about the countries and ports they are going to visit in the future. They should blacklist Thailand and its ports for at least a decade.

The ship has been at the sea for more than 20 days after being turned away from the Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, Guam and now Thailand.

Quote from this article: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/preparations-under-way-to-evacuate-21-thais-on-westerdam-cruise-ship/

To my knowledge Guam is part of the United States? So even America rejects a cruiseship owned by an American company? If they don't even take in their own, how can we expect anyone to accept them?

wrong country to count of mercy

unless that is one's family name with $$$$$$$$$$$$

Wonder how much cash changed hands for Cambodia to take this ship.

The writing is on the wall - this will backfire BIG time; just a question of time!
