It's very nice, and was a 1st choice for us, for a long time, to live there, when leaving Udon. Looked at a lot of land lots that were for sale.

No Makro though, and I'm not a fan of Bang Saphans, and wouldn't hop over there to shop. With that, everyday living for us would be a slight hassle.

There's tourist bars, sort of, at hotels, and a few street bars, but yea, not real bar scene. Just sipping at restaurants.

One of the cleanest, if not the cleanest Gulf beach. Nice when the surf is cooperating. Was a regular stop for us, 2X a year, for about 20 yrs. Now it's a day trip for use, actully just came back from there, while returning from a short southern loop O&A.

Less than 1 hour below us, at Prachuap.

Yes it does. Easy walk to beach area, if traveling lite. Also may, or may not, be MB w/ side cart taxi at RR station during arrivals.

Visited there several times a few years back. Nice beach. Still relatively unspoiled and quiet.

Worth a visit and might be a good place to live if you are ok with being a bit far from city amenities and infrastructure.

There's also Ban Kruat in south Buriram. That would be something else again ...

SideTripLife and Paddy Doyle are the only youtube channels I follow. Both cover the south very well and are worth to watch. Probably nothing new anymore for you KhunLa, but for people not living South of Hua Hin a good eye opener. They motivated me to explore this part of Thailand on my next holiday (in 4 weeks). It will be 4 weeks in Hua Hin and 2 weeks travelling the south covering Ranong, Krabi and Khanom including the Thai Riviera Rd. If I like it, I will stay longer there next time.

Yes, it's a nice place with not too many farangs. There's a big Lotus and a big 7/12 and a big CF. I don't miss Macro though it's only 1/2 hr away.

Many Germans, and the obligatory Brits and Yankees.

No bar scene, just for surfing, swimming, walking, biking. Sitting under palm trees, reflecting your life so far.

The Lotus's are the 'Go Fresh' version, rather small, except the one, larger, about 30 kms away from town. Same with the 'mini Big C' up on hwy 4, at Shell station. When we were thinking about living there, just had the one 7-11, now a small Lotus's in same area.

Have the large fresh market, over on far side of RR station. Smaller market area on other surfside of RR station.

I remember at the time, no bank, and they only had a mobile van bank, I think. Don't remember any brick & mortar building back then. Nice town & area to retire, if no health issues. Bang Saphan hospital used to get flooded out almost every rainy season. Seem to fixed that issue, as haven't seen in the news lately.

No, you're wrong. The Lotus was enlarged last year and got everything you want. Fresh meat, chicken, pork aso.

There are indeed fresh markets with fresh fish every morning and a big Saturday market.

Along a 1 km beach long beach road you find dozens of small restaurants directly at the beach.

That's a plus, though not much of a fan of Lotus's. Really doesn't need to be that large, for the area.

Our local one is large and one of the worst Lotus's I've ever been in.

Well, Bankrut's Lotus stocks everything what a Farang needs.

Also, across the railway station there is a strange shop with different sorts of cheese/Gouda/cheddar/Edamer aso and products branded from US and EU. Different wines as well.

If you are into the lazy beach life and not wanting heavy tourist traffic, then Baan Grood (seems to have many translations) is one of the best places to pick . The big plus for me is that developments have not taken over or restricted access to the beach, unlike that AI generated pic above. No bars of note so maybe your mate moved there to dry out. Don't live there but it is where we go regularly to chill out.

A bit iffy at times, but when cooperating, very nice indeed. The only Gulf beach I'll swim in. Shallow of course, like lots of Gulf beaches, so not the most refreshing at times. Still nice though 👍

Always best to have a pool on Gulf beaches if wanting to cool off in water.

One of my early DIY drones with el' cheapo camera gimbal, hence the uneven horizon ...

In KhunLA's vid, the water on the inside is brown. Looks like high season Patong scheit water.

In the early sun, yea, it will look dark, as 'in it's own shadow'. Get on the other side of noon, 2pm ish and the the gulf will appear blueish green or greenish blue. Just how the optics of camera lens capture it.

July is off season, so don't expect too much, though early morning low tide is usually calm. Ban Krut as stated, one of the only beaches, if not only now, that I'd go in. As can see your feet clearly in chest high water, and low to no fecal count, due to little developement complared to other tourist spots.

Adaman will be consistantly better, but you'll need to deal with high fecal counts on all the touristy beaches.

Resort in the screenshot of vid below, is actually 10 kms north of Ban Krut, at Rumra Beach, Thap Sakae district, and pet friendly ...
