Bangkok: Electrical cables at road level after power pole nearly snaps in Nonthaburi soi

The sheer weight of a huge number of cables and wires brought a concrete electrical pole almost crashing to the ground in a soi in Nonthaburi, Bangkok, last night.

Police and city electrical workers went to Soi Pracharat 26 (Soi Sri Pornsawan) around 9 pm to find wires almost touching the road.

Trader Bang-orn, 67, was on hand to point out the devastation.

She said she was boiling her nuts outside a convenience store when she heard a great noise. It was very scary, she said, and she was obliged to move her cart under an awning.

While not an electrical expert she was in no doubt that the weight of the cables had caused the collapse.

Engineer Wiraphot agreed with her assessment. His men were doing a temporary fix and would start work on something more permanent today and initiate a discussion as to what to do about all those heavy wires.

This time it was the power poles own fault and not a cars fault hitting it.

I remember the first visit of a A380 to Swampy (promo trip). As it was being towed on the dispersal area a wingtip touched a hangar roof. The subsequent Thai enquiry blamed the hangar.

the non electrical cables are nearly at ground.  electrical cables still elevated luckily.  they are the highest ones with insulaters

But, but, but Thailand will be the Huba, huba hub of electricity in Asia............. Lol

Must be proud of their collective work, keep adding and adding until snap!!!

Now it is known, how many cables does it take to nearly snap a pole.

should it not be 'crashing almost to the ground', rather than what is written?

To snap is to break suddenly and completely. To nearly snap I guess means it nearly broke nearly suddenly and nearly completely.

It is the fault of the stupid falang!!! They must pay us 1,000,000 baht to fix! ????????

Where is Bill Gate's money when it is needed?

Could be the massive 2 foot deep concrete foundation support base the somehow weakened.
