Video: Bangkok traffic is so bad taxi driver passes time by working out in his cab

Getting stuck in traffic is par for the course if you live Bangkok, especially if you are driving during the evening rush hour.

In 2017, a study by INRIX, which analyses traffic congestion around the world, found that Bangkok drivers spend an average of 61 hours per year stuck in traffic, which is longer than in any other country.

But what can you do to beat the boredom and frustration of being stuck in a traffic jam?

You might honk your horn, which may relieve your frustration for all of a split second or you could risk breaking the law by reaching for your phone and posting about your frustrations on social media. But most likely, you will simply stare aimlessly at the bumper to bumper traffic in front of you.

Well now a Bangkok taxi driver has come up with a very different approach to beating the boredom of being stuck in a traffic jam.

On Thursday, Facebook user Book Chaoguay shared a video of a taxi driver appearing to do sit ups in his cab during rush hour congestion in Bangkok.

The clip, which was taken at Surasak intersection, shows the taxi having adjusted his seat, appearing to perform sit ups.

The clip proved popular with netizens and has been viewed more than 1 million times.

Many people commenting praised the taxi driver saying the sit ups will help him get in shape.

I think he was just banging his head against the steering wheel in frustration.

Easy to say if you're not a passenger in his vehicle....

Oh no now everyone will be doing this and when the light turns green it will take even longer for the traffic to get moving.????

Nah, only one in one hundred Thai's have done as many sit ups as he did at one traffic light in their lives.

Don't do that! You could end up in a 'situation' with the driver in front of you. Remember that very many drivers are armed with guns, machetes, knifes and what not.

Maybe just listening to AC/DC.

He was probably fighting against "micro sleep"!

Risk breaking the law, right.

Everybody plays on their phones while driving in BKK, and at every red light which finally turns green, there is always at least one clown that delays 10 carlengths before looking up from their phone and stupidly realizing its time to go.

Well, don't hit the gas pedal by accident, when you're down....

Well at least the netizens had something positive to say!

It beats passing time watching a video while driving his cab !!! (which I have seen and objected to with the Taxi driver a number of times).

Sometimes I do not see the video. Can it be some filter in Firefox taking it away? Any ideas about that?

I thought maybe he was doing the 6" curls...

Look carefully and you will see the ladies head...sit-ups really!
