Covid-19 declared a dangerous contagious disease

The National Communicable Disease Committee (NCDC) has declared Covid-19 a dangerous contagious disease, but added that Thailand has not yet reached the third phase of the epidemic.

Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said after a meeting of the National Communicable Disease Committee this afternoon (February 24) that the committee declared this disease as a dangerous contagious disease.

“This declaration will facilitate officers to work more effectively,” he said. “It does not mean the country has entered the third phase of the epidemic. It is just to delay or extend the present situation from escalating to the third phase.”

Thailand had announced 13 dangerous contagious diseases in the past – plague, smallpox, Congo Haemorrhaegic Fever, West Nile Fever, Yellow Fever, Lassa Fever, Nipah virus disease, Marburg virus disease, Ebola, Hendra virus infection, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), Middle Eastern Respiratory Disease (MERS), and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB)

The Covid-19 disease, after approval by the committee, has become the 14th dangerous contagious disease.

According to the Communicable Disease Act, 2015 BE, chapter 6, article 35, in the event of an urgent necessity to prevent the spread of a dangerous contagious disease, the NCDC has the authority to close various locations temporarily, order patients or suspected patients to temporarily cease working, and deny patients or suspects access to certain places. According to this Act, violators will be punished with imprisonment of not more than two years or a fine of not over Bt500,000, or both.

"The National Communicable Disease Committee (NCDC) has declared Covid-19 a dangerous contagious disease"...…...

I'm pretty sure the 2,600 that have died from it and the 79,000 others who are infected would agree.

and will never reach it because Covid-19 is afraid of khun Prayuth;
in France we have the Maginot line (search on the internet and you will find) which stops everything, radioactive clouds, invasions of Germans or bedbugs :cheesy: and therefore Covid-19;

in Thailand they have even better, they have khun Prayuth who keeps repeating that everything is 100% on :neus:

You had 35 infections, no increase in a week or so, a Thai developed cure, and some leaves that apparently work, and 21 have gone home and your borders are open to the Chinese...

For all intention purposes you are THE world leader in containing, treating and curing the virus and your Health Minister should be consulting with South Korea and Italy.

Bonuses all round.

This new declaration 'gives the NCDC the authority to close various locations temporarily, order patients or suspected patients to temporarily cease working, and deny patients or suspects access to certain places. According to this Act, violators will be punished with imprisonment of not more than two years or a fine of not over Bt500,000, or both.'

From one extreme to the other - what an amazing place Thailand is - just amazing.

Really?  Well I do declare!  Thailand leading the way in sounding the alarm...????

Iranian Health Ministry has just confirmed 50 fatalities after saying it was fake news.

Wondering where they put violators if the gaols are closed? In the hospital perhaps.

Emiratis now banned from going to Thailand

Covid-19 denied entry and deported no phase 3 100% under control????

Anutin is really the right man in the right place.

Next plan is to hand out face masks with warning triangles, immediate deportation for any refusers.

I don't believe there has been any Flu virus in the last 50 years that hasn't killed at least 2,600; probably many more than that.  The estimate in USA is 12 to 60 thousand die every year from flu.

The issue is everyone getting it at the same time, inability of infrastructure to cope, the resultant deaths from pneumonia and other complications, the longer term implications of permanent lung damage, the economic impact of a pandemic etc.

It's not "just the flu" unfortunately.

Ah what the hell, I am wearing one already Air Quality at 164. And as I walk I keep an eye open for rabid dogs, especially cross bread abandoned wild born pitbulls.

... well, it's all over the media which the flu never is !!!

Nobody knows anything about the virus or the real numbers.

Most is pure speculation.

The numbers as they are now are not even a small cold compared to the flu !!!

[or Malaria with 800,000 people dead every year !!!]

It's full blown hysteria.

You don't seem to understand that once it hit a city only fraction of the patient can get ICU. Hospital are not overflowing with flu and malaria patient.

That's a too harsh statement. There have been multiple studies in Lancet already, information is emerging. Like the paper from yesterday, where mortality among those admitted to ICU in critical condition in a group of 52 was 61.5% within 28 days. That ain't a simple flu.

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanres/article/PIIS2213-2600(20)30079-5/fulltext

Quote

Of 710 patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia, 52 critically ill adult patients were included. The mean age of the 52 patients was 59·7 (SD 13·3) years, 35 (67%) were men, 21 (40%) had chronic illness, 51 (98%) had fever. 32 (61·5%) patients had died at 28 days, and the median duration from admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) to death was 7 (IQR 3–11) days for non-survivors.

Anutin made this statement.

Wow ! Hes as sharp as a new pin

They need to close down the vfs global bio metric data collection centers. These centers are outdated and a serious risk for the global soreed of the vovid-19 virus. Risks to public safety include overcrowding. The lifts, air conditioning, the waiting room, document hsndelinf and the biometric data recording equipment. These centers are outdated. Thailand already recorded bio metric data in Thai citizens passports in full comiance with international standards. These centers are as dangerous if not more so then an airport checking or waiting room. One super spreader could infect many would be travellers.

The 49000 infected. Those dead and recovered dont get a vote.

Only a fraction of patients need ICU.

I think that's the "critical": https://bnonews.com/index.php/2020/02/the-latest-coronavirus-cases/

And probably most of the dead. So in Hubei, ‭4148‬ in ICU (dead+critical)? That's about 6.4%. So let's say a very moderate 20,000 infected in Thailand, that'd be ~1280 in ICU nationwide. How many ICU beds do Thai hospitals have?

According to the article in lancet, ~60% in ICU in a group of 52 persons died in 28 days ( https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanres/article/PIIS2213-2600(20)30079-5/fulltext ).

I'm counting about 4% CFR (Case Fatality Ratio) from sources like that. And that's with the epidemic still ongoing and based on flaky data. The early 2% guess by WHO doesn't seem to match. I don't remember what SARS had in it's early days but I think it was similar.

14% severe and 5% critical is sufficient to overwhelm most healthcare systems that are often already running near full capacity. Someone died in Korea yesterday from a non-coronavirus emergency after being refused at 7 hospitals because all ICU were full.
