The Council Tax Bands haven't been updated since 1991 when the valuations were as follows.

A Up to £40,000

B £40,001 to £52,000

C £52,001 to £68,000

D £68,001 to £88,000

E £88,001 to £120,000

F £120,001 to £160,000

G £160,001 to £320,000

H More than £320,000

I (Wales only) More than £320,000

I think most sane people would agree things have moved on since then so overdue for a revision.

What would be the point of a revaluation, if the people can't pay more?

It's re-banding that doesn't set the amount, the local council does that. But houses get upgraded, and they could no doubt add another couple of bands at the top for mansions and palaces.

So people should simply be allowed to cheat on their tax liabilities?.........is that what most posters are recommending.......AND............ it is totally out of order for people to brought to book for tax evasion......what a strange notion?

The average UK house price in 1991 when the council tax bands were established was 60k, the average UK house price in 2026 is 271k. The tax bands need adjusting, and some houses need resurveying since they've had extensions, loft conversions and even basements added.

my wife pays 600 B a year for 3 houses she owns, how much would that be in UK, also garbage

collection ,2 per week ,I think 300 B a year,

I just read a post on FB..........some moron spitting feathers, wanting to know why he has to pay council tax just to have his bin emptied once every two weeks................could have been satire, but he was from Middlesbrough, so I discounted that notion.

I think we paid something like £3.60 the first year we moved in, five years ago........but haven't paid anything since????

Bin collection is brilliant ........0930 every Monday on the dot.......anything they can lift goes in the truck.......having said that, all they do is tip it about 3 miles away and burn it.

In all fairness the first time was in the 14th century, she tried it again nearly 600 years later. Times do change occasionally you know :)

Rebanding doesn’t raise tax, the council does. Until your house jumps two bands and your bill goes up anyway.

Then invent a couple of new top bands for ‘palaces’ so it looks like you are only soaking the rich. Classic. Tax more people, call it fairness. Pretend it’s not just revenue-raising with a communist garnish.
