As the title suggests - I understand it's a trek down to the London Embassy - does anyone know if there is an express service?  I see 4-6 week wait time for the £30 fee but no suggestion of a same day service (which would be the norm in Thailand)

passports have to come from Thailand, so no one day service, 2 trips

Thai citizens can enter Thailand with an expired Thai passport. 

So I suggest following the same procedure as many before, including my wife and daughter on separate occasions, and using the expired passport to enter Thailand and renewing it whilst there. 

Obviously one cannot leave Thailand using an expired Thai passport. 

My wife had hers renewed the other week in London. It took around three weeks.

This was more to do with a visa extension while in the UK.  A friend's wife only has a few weeks left on her passport before submitting FLR... I don't think that's a major problem as it's all about the date the application is submitted (correct if I'm mistaken!)
