Restaurants in Thailand urged to provide hand sanitizer for customers, screen staff for COVID-19

Providing hand sanitizer for customers, making sure staff wear gloves and screening staff before they start work are some of the preventive measures restaurants in Thailand have been urged to implement amid the ongoing threat from the coronavirus.

 

The new measures, shared by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) on Tuesday, also state that extra cleaning of high risk surfaces should be undertaken, ensuring that detergent or disinfectant is used.

 

Staff are urged to wear gloves and/or use steel tongs when collecting waste that may be contaminated with saliva.

 

Restaurant owners should also be responsible for screening their staff before they start work. If a staff member is sick they should return home immediately and where necessary seek medical attention.

 

 

The news comes as Thailand on Tuesday updated its travel advisory information regarding the coronavirus, now officially named COVID-19.

 

As per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Public Health anyone travelling to Thailand from Japan, Germany, South Korea, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Taiwan, France, Singapore, Italy, and Iran must self quarantine for 14 days after arriving in Thailand. 

 

“Tourists are advised to “travel safely” by practising frequent hand hygiene measures (washing with soap or using alcohol-based gel)”, TAT said in a statement.

 

Tourists in Thailand are also urged to “kindly comply with fever screening at attractions”. 

 

“Travellers showing any signs of the COVID-19 symptoms are subject to further medical evaluation and treatment,” TAT said in guidelines posted on its website.

 

Tourists are also recommended to wear a hygienic mask during travel, avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms, and avoid visiting crowded places.

 

If feeling sick, TAT says tourists should “seek medical care as soon as possible and inform the healthcare worker about the details of your travel history”.

I guess the 'bum gun' and drying your hands on your shirt method is redundant now!

An impressive number of restaurants in Thailand do not have toilets; impossible to wash your hands before and after eating.
the boui-boui of streets of day and night on the markets of the same name have no toilets ..

 

Perhaps it would be appropriate to ask the governors of the provinces to close all these establishments without any hygiene.?

That really needs some serious clarification

This is not just a Thailand problem, tho i did go out for dinner last night and to their credit they did have sanitises at the eatery and 2nd their cleanness of their toilets would trump our Aussie toilets mainly due that some Aussies are just lazy and disgusting and won't clean up after them selves. I would like to see these sanitises in every eatery including Australia but it be a waste of time unless their educated to use it and im talking about workers and customers.

Until then ill keep taking me own.

Here in the US we are beginning to reconsider our eating out habits. While this  virus is going around I suggest everyone adopts this attitude. 

 I am afraid, in the the next few months  it is going to be a difficult time for restaurants.  

Yeah that'll help at the Chinese sea food buffet. Cough spit sneeze.
